Qingdao Jiutian Flight Academy scam, China

Before spending money to go to Qingdao for an interview with Jiutian Spartan flight academy, you may want to check some information about their financial status. Foreign investors just pulled out because they were ripped off by their Chinese partners. It seems they don’t have money to pay their employees, I doubt they can afford to pay foreign instructors. Those who were there were never paid.
PM me for more info.

Some of my friends own a flight school here in US. We are wondering if we can offer pilot training for airlines in China or India as I read that there are shortage of airline pilots there. Any insight who we shall talk to?

Thanks!

The Chinese Airlines! The problem though is to find the contact. CAAC (civil aviation authority of China) may help you: www.caac.gov.cn
Make sure they'll pay. If you ask to someone doing business with the Chinese you'll find out how hard is to get paid.

I heard they are trying to recruit some instructors but offering less salary than Beijing Pan Am and with worse benefits. Do you know anything about this?

Line instructor is paid $1800 a month but the first month gets only $1000. but... ATTENTION!!! this is gross, including taxes! it remains a barely $1200 that is paid in CNY (RMB). The contract is NOT a flight crew contract, there is nothing about duty, time flight and rest time... very fishy...
If you compare this with Beijing Pan Am, they pay $2000 CLEAN (company pais all taxes for you) a month from the first day you land in China, even if you land at 23:59.

Also benefits are ridiculous, medical insurance is not an international medical repatriation insurance and does not include dental, accomodation is below any standard of decency.

Their fleet is... 3 (three) C172's. No PA-44, No KingAir (since Raytheon dealer for asia is in Taiwan there is an embargo going on), Nothing else.
Operations have not started and they will not start untill they will find a Instructors willing to work in that mess...

I also have interesting financial info, but you need to PM me for those.

Dream......

I take the opportunity of this thread to alert the Aviation Communauty about the atmosphere around Chinese Flight Training opportunities. It is a sideline to the initial thread, I apologise for that...Sorry
Plenty of Business men are attracted by this new Eldorado.... "training the Chinese Cadets"!!!! Beware:
1) It is a very professional activity, if it seems juicy... it can be also your business coffin, because -contrary to appearances- it is not an easy business.
2) You are not alone, plenty of apprentice CEO of FTOs are laying siege of aviation Authorities to open New schools in the region. Fortunately, Authorities are slowing down the process. In Malaysia, it is at least 3 new projects underway adding to the 3 existing schools. Some are raving 500 cadets per year!!!!
3) Chinese airlines are not so desesperate and play their own game... plenty of resources: Australia. Plenty of expats still available. And they have also professionals in their management able to make the difference between serious people and "amateurs"...
Good Luck

It seems to me that they have no idea how to run an aviation business. The manuals have been written by people that have no experience in flight training at all. I guess who will take responsibility for the operations?

If anyone wants to build time fast as a flight instructor in China he/she is mistaken. Once you are there, it takes several week even up to several months to get the CAAC approval (training, exams and medical). When you get the paperwork, there are many days you cannot fly due to air pollution or ATC restriction. Airspace in China is controlled by military; so if the flight school didn't pay them enough they will not release the airspace. Just my experience at P.A. However, if you are so desperate then go ahead. They do pay you on time (at PA) and you get to fly, it is just slow. The hotel they put you in is substandard and the food sux. No entertainment or decent restaurant nearby. You need to take a 45 min bus ride to downtown and it is not available all the time.

Well, at least at Pan Am they pay you.
At Jiutian Spartan they don't!

Thumbs down Latest Update for Qing Dao Jiu Tian International Flight Institute (for Year 2012)

Previously known as Jiutian Spartan Flight Academy. It is a laughing Stock! Check their hypocrite & new image {right click here}

This school is hiring foreign Flight Instructor (2 February 2012)

Here is the process (in brief)
1. After licence been verified by CAAC, FI will receive monthly allowance of RMB 2500 (approx. US$396.73).
2. Upon clearing CAAC theory examination, monthly allowance of RMB 4000 (approx. US$634.78) to be given.
3. Sign a FIVE years contract.

Below is the latest payscale (offered from 2 February 2012):
Grade F7 - Basic monthly RMB 6100 (approx. USD 968), Additonal RMB 190 hourly (approx. US$30.15 hourly)(for instructional 400 hours)
Grade F6 - Basic monthly RMB 6700 (approx. USD 1063), Additonal RMB 210 hourly (approx. US$33.33 hourly)(for instructional 600 hours)
Grade F5 - Basic monthly RMB 7400 (approx. USD 1174), Additonal RMB 230 hourly (approx. US$36.50 hourly)(for instructional 800 hours)
Grade F4 - Basic monthly RMB 8200 (approx. USD 1301), Additonal RMB 250 hourly (approx. US$39.67 hourly)(for instructional 1000 hours)

*Based on February 2, 2012 currency exchange rate: RMB 6.30139 = US$1

My professional experience and my humble opinion for those who wish to be a flight instructor in China:
1. Horrible cum pathetic payscale!
2. Insurance not covered!
3. In China low altitude and navigation for flight training are fully restricted and controlled by PLA Air-Force. No way to go navigation!
4. Bad weather and poor visibility for most of the time. Imagine average 10-15hours hours per month? What will be the monthly take home pay?
5. Once CAAC license is converted, Flight Instructor will be stuck in the flight school forever!
6. Flight Instructor will be blacklisted forever if s/he decided to leave at any stage. Might as well forget joining the airlines in China (if that is your intention).
7. No priority in joining airlines.
8. Best of all, if you are signing a 5 years contract with this school, I will sincerely wish you good luck to your career!
9. There is a famous idiom to describe, if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

I hope this expat F.I. will give everybody an insight what is going on in the school.

Also, Phoenix Flying College in Xi'an recruited some expat F.Is. Hope they will not regret.

I would not be surprised if this were true, so I´m not in the need of convincing. I am just curious if you were told this by your employer or if it is 2nd hand info.
