Instruct job's available in Malaysia
Good'day
I would like to obtain more info. about any flight schools that at the present moment are recruiting expat flight instructors to give flt training in Malaysia. From the net bowsing done so far, I just found MAF, Asia Pacific Flight training academy, and another place in Langkawi (!), but I am not sure if they accept any application or even is worth to try a first contact.
Thanks for the help .
Regards,
WYA

I just came back from Langkawi last week, doing a x-country flight from Johor (5.5 hours total time on Cessna 152). Managed to meet up with my ex-PPL instructor who's currently a flight instructor in LATC.
The answer is yes.. LATC is recruiting expats to become flight instructors, but the minimum requirement is CPL with 6000 hours. And if I'm not mistaken ME and IR rating is needed as well, but LATC willing to take you in without ME/IR ratings if you are willing to pay on your own to get those ratings, which can be done in LATC itself.

The minimum requirements were not that strict last year, but somehow the DCA tightened the rules even when they are still in shortage of instructors. Just imagine that LATC with 200+ students, 20+ planes and only 9 flying instructors at the moment..
I just found out yesterday that expats flying instructors can only come and teach in flying schools ONLY. They are not allowed to teach in the clubs anymore, unlike in the past (with the exception of Singaporeans).

I heard a few ex-MAS pilots who were 'retrenched' (read as MSS) from F50/Twin Otter are coming to LATC to fill up the vacancies. With offer as good as peanuts from FAX (subsidary of Air Asia), they are much better at LATC until aviation industry in Malaysia turns greener again or when they are marketable elsewhere.
The school at Kota Baru is looking, I know 3 who have gone up there. Not much to do but the pay is better than some FO jobs plus you can save heaps if you want, Jus dont go to Betong too much

AFI or QFI's
Plz call them in person to cross cx the minimum requirement....6000 hr is just a bull......call capt Michael Heng for some info....he is with Langkawi training school...012-2075246.....or call DCA for Ipoh training school....Principal Col(RTD) Hatta or Mej (RTD) Halim A. or Capt Nadzari QFI.......most QFI's or AFI's that have hours, mostly prefer to join airlines....only exceptional percentage of Malaysian prefer to stay in training enviroment.

FI Job for non-Malaysians
Plenty of opportunities but positions are filling up soon
The options at the moment
HM Aerospace - Langkawi (Brand new DA40, DA42 and TB10GT) hmaerospace.com
Malacca Flying Academy - Malacca (PA28, PA34)
mfa.edu.my
Asia Pacific Training Center - Kota Bahru (PA28 only at this time, PA34 to arrive soon)
(forgotten their website)
All above schools need instructors, Correction Smile airlines: Its not 6000 hours my friend!
For foreigners, You gotta have CPL IR ME and Unrestricted FI rating and minimum of 1000 hours instructional or else you will get grade 3 pay!
Good luck

Be Careful.
Recruitment is going on for expats but BE CAREFUL!
If you decide to work at MFA Melaka be warned that the standards there are quite low...ANYONE (local) is guaranteed to get a frozen ATPL/IR no matter how poor they are...just pay the money and fly the hours! Then they end up in MAS or AA.
The company treats expats like sh#!. They will change your contract on you as they see fit and at a moments notice! If you don't like it the only thing you can do is to give three months notice then you have to pay back any expenses to them i.e. flights and any training or standardisation etc. By the way, if you do this it is classed as 'breaking contract' and you cannot work in Malaysia for a further 6 months. They will screw you any way they can! The pay is very poor in comparison to other flight schools in Malaysia and the work is harder.
Good points?.........none except ok if you need to build hours.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

In the Airlines not completing your bond Ex Mas, Meaning you prob 40 have to pay back any remaining bond. Regarding breaking contract Never came across it before leaving my last job to go to new one.
