Not exactly bases... The company refers to them as ELO (Extended Lay Over) "bases". You operate to your ELO base and then take your 8 days off... then operate back.

As the only CDN destination served by CAL is YVR, they do have FO's "based" there. No guarantee that you can get such a "base" if you join. Other North American bases I believe are Miami and Los Angeles.

Does the day you are travelling back to your EOL base count as a day off. Does CAL take care of the Visa requirements in the US. Also is there any allowance for living in those bases or is all the expense upto you. Do expat FO's get upgraded at all and is there a training bond with CAL and for how long and how much.

Most of what you ask has been posted before... but I will save you the trouble of looking:

If you are on the ELO you are working a flight home, so that is not considered a day off. If however you are not on the ELO, then travel home is on your time off. Your 8 days off will actualy amount to 6 if you are in YVR.

CAL does not take care of any VISA requirements for the US. If you are CDN you don't need them.

No living allowance is provided if you are not based in Taipei.

As for bonds... well that depends on your experience (heavy jet or no heavy jet... different set-up). Take that one up with the company!
