Senior! Cadet Pilot. Please Advise!
Hi all,
I'm new member for this forum. Recently, i thinking to make a career change. I've been IT industry for about 6 years. I'm 26 years old now. Just completed my degree in computer system engineering (Part Time). I don't have any flight expriences.
I haven't sent in my application yet. I got 2 issues before I proceed with the application.
- I got no idea about the 6/6 standard. But, from what I know. My eye degree will be 500 each. I plan to do LASIK. So, I'm not sure whether I should do it before application. Or I can do it, once I passed my first interview.
- In my SPM result, I got A1 in Maths, C3 in Additional Maths, but I got C6 in my Physic. Am I still qualified for it ? Is my degree cert will help me in the application?
Can anyone advise me? Thanks.

If you intend to join SIA, your eyesight degree must be less than 500 before lasik. You have to do lasik before you apply. Post-op degree has to be 6/6. And they will still take into account your pre-op degree even if your post op is 6/6

Hi Billkill,
It means that i got no chance to join SIA.
- If I go for LASIK. Got to wait for 1 year to stabilised. By that time, my age will be 27 years old. . Oh..my god.
- Less than 500 before Lasik. Another big issue too.
So sad.
May be I just send in and try my luck.
Thanks for the advise, BILLKILL.

Cap is 32...dude check out the SIA employment website. LASIK is allowed by CAAS so long as it's one year post ops...but that was when LASIK was still pretty new. I think they'r reviewing that process now....There are SIA approved eye specialist doctors who can advise u accordingly....one chap is practising in Mount Elizabeth.
Do call up CAAS to find out if u need to....they are quite keen to answer yr queries last I called. :o)

Sim79... i just got my eye done 6 months ago and what my eye specialist told me was, CAAS does approve lasik for their cadet selection... and i knew someone, who underwent lasik, is flying now. However going back to some of the comments here on CAAS is reviewing this policy started to worry me. Don't mind if you could post the reply by your specialist after you have clarify with them
