Cool Slow Cadet Trg at SIA

Just fruatrating how slow the SIA Cadet trg. is !! wish someone guides on how to deal with this.
also they treat cadets like school kids, pretty opp. to what the public image is potrayed ,so learn,all ye folks, the old saying is true, All that glitters is not Gold.

If you think it is slow... how can you last 3 weeks OBS, 6 months Seletar, 8-9 months at Janakot, 1 month at STC, 3 months at Brisbane and 1 more month or more at STC???

I am sorry to say you are obviously not the one for the job, even if you ever make it and go online.

You should see what the guys in western countries go through to get into an airline... takes much longer on average.

i totally agree..

in other countries, it normally take a yr part time to get ppl, another for CPL, half yr for C cat, plus 1 yr of waiting here and there looking for instructing job.

If lucky to find one at a busy flying school, about 1 yr to get B cat, else 2 to 3 yrs. Then after getting about 500 hours in single engine, move on to twin engine instructing for another 4 to 5 yrs to clock 1500hr PIC total before any airline will look at your CV.

All in all is about 6 to 10 years depending on luck, capability and good PR.

If you were to tell those guys that you have landed yourself with a cadetship with some airliner and you'll be flying a heavy after about 2 years of training... you just look at their facial expression.

The durations posted are already pretty optimistic...

3 weeks for OBS is standard, 6 months to obtain your frozen ATPL, plus the rest of the technical and performance papers, and that's provided you pass them all in one sitting.

Next, approximately 10 months in Jandakot to obtain your CPL/IR, and that depends largely on weather, instructor availability, planning.... etc. Expect to stay longer if you start your course in winter.

1 month in STC for the ground school for the Learjet 45. Again, may take longer if Maroochydore cannot accept you.

Another 3 months or so for Advanced Training on the L45. That's pretty standard. The training is to give you an "intro" into airline operations, and develop multi-crew operations.

And finally, depending on when the main fleet course starts, you may have to wait a couple of weeks to begin ground school for the B777 or B744.

After that, you still have simulator and aircraft training before you become a Second Officer. And there's still another year (or so) to go before you get checked out as a First Officer.

All in all, expect to take about 3 years to become a First Officer from the time you step into SIA.

Dun think this duration is long; almost everywhere else, an aspiring airline pilot can take decades to get a FO position in a major airline. Be thankful that you have the opportunity to be sponsored and checked out in just 3 years!

Windtalker, I don't think the training program is slow, Gawd dam it... Are you sure you went thru` the program or you only heard "winds" about it??...

How I wish ATPL & Perf A will be a little bit longer...

Tiny,

how i wished ATPL and Perf A papers never existed. I felt as if half a year of my life only existed in my room, my bed and my study table.. and of cos the exam room.

thumbs up to those that have passed and fingers crossed for those taking it.

looking back is always memorable.... haha..
