Srilankan pay?
Anybody out there got any idea what the pay is like? have tried all the usual routes including calling the airline, but no joy as yet. If any1 could help i would really appreciate it.
Also, i have applied and not got any reply or anything yet. Is it better for me to call or go out there and knock on the door. I know they are desperate for crew, so whats the hold up?

can't you get the picture the pay is low that they do not want to reply.
salary US$ 3250 per month
housing US$750 per month
kids edu US$ 150 per month
grand total US$ 4150 come join sri lankan flap and get "jammed"

tHANKS FOR THE INFO SRILANKAN PILOT.
You say its bad, but it is more than I am on now and I am in the UK on a medium jet( a redundant type!).
What are the allowances like?
I take it that this is a direct entry FO on the A320?
would you be able to go direct entry on the A330?
What do the allowances work out like on the baby fleet?
If this is the case I may still be interested just for the experience, and take it from there! Heard good things from some training friends in Airbus about srilankan pilot standards!

Life in SriLankan is quite peaceful. The pay is not as good as some of the other carriers in the region but works out to about 5000 US$ for a F/O and about 7000 for a Captain all included. The flying is not much . They take on endorsed crew on all the fleets but if you are not rated then you start on the 320. There is a training bond you have to sign for 10 000US$.

this is also one of the rip offs and letting down the local pilots as well, why on esrth the expats get a huge tax free salary when the locals get 1/3 of that with a heavy tax, they fly the same plane accrodng to the same standard and speak better english and smarter than some expats such as philipines, algerian, indians etc etc thats nall because of the curruption at the Ops,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,rihgt now there are more expast flying in this airline than the locals and there are around 40-50 local pilots in the matket without jobsssss

to ul501,the local pilots went on strike a couple of years ago while threatening an innocent expat pilot with bodily harm.The EK management yeilded to the national pilots pressure and brought the salary range of locals and expats to the same level, which was a very positive development at that time, the only extra tke expats got was the USD750 housing allowance.Now, with regards to tax free salaries this is a matter of government policy as all expats in Sri Lanka be it pilots or not have been enjoying this privelege,I guess the only way to bring about changes to this would be to make the nation a "tax free" country in line with the Gulf States rather than taking the airline management to task.The rule of thumb is very simple "if you ain"t happy,leave".

As far as i am aware nobody should be complaining about expats taking jobs away from local guys! I am an Englishman and UK airlines hold NO loyalty to a 'local'! at least sri lankan have a large proportion of locals flying for them.... my national carrier looks to be more interested in equal opportunities and forgeiners to keep its eye on international and government targets of employing 'others', so i see this as nothing new! as far as 40 - 50 locals not having jobs in srilanka, well there are hundreds upon hundreds of friends of mine unemployed!!!
All i am trying to say is; it happens everywhere, experience versus passport!
and yes it does suk!

most airlines in the world (in ur case - Srilankan) employ a certain number of expat pilots, but u can voice it out to ur buddies in Lanka ..
and yeah .. srilankans speak better english than indians ? .. yeah .. dream on ..

Same old everywhere you go - its often who you know until you get the some decent hours and "in vogue" type ratings...
It would be nice if UL gave out more local cadetships but as I understand it the large numbers leaving mean they simply don't have time to train enough cadets - hence the expats.
In my time in SL I met some of these "unemployed pilots" at parties etc. Many had trained overseas and come home with a fresh CPL / IR and <300 hours but were expecting UL to give them instant cadetships on the A320. They didn't seem to appreciate that in many countries pilots are expected to work their way up and prove themselves before being offered the plum jobs with their national carrier.
Some I spoke to showed no interest in getting some experience with local turboprop operators or looking outside SL. I got the impression some thought it was "beneath" them to work for anybody else but UL. They were often from quite wealthy backgrounds...
On the other hand I often heard that more deserving cases were trapped in GA as Daddy needed to know someone high in CAA-SL or UL Mgt to get them an interview.
For those locals who do get cadetships they have a sweet deal. Entry to their national flag carrier on A320/330/340's with minimal experience and eventually a good salary, that allows them a very nice lifestyle. (expats needing to save most of it for when they go home and face a high cost economy). Many young guys (and girls) in western countries would be envious of such an opportunity.
PS - I never experienced any negative reaction to my presence from locals. They all seemed to accept we were necessary!
As for the salary gripes - well UL doesn't pay the best and SL (apologies in advance) is not seen as a very desireable expat location. If they want expats they have to pay - market forces - simple as that. Even with the tax free salary they still can't attract enough!
SL vs Indian English - I'm not going there!
But I would say is that to a native English speaking foreigner many South Asians have quite strong accents and sometimes speak ridiculusly fast - especially when under pressure. Seemingly equating speed of speech to competency, missing the point that it is better to say it clearly and at a comfortable speed than have to repeat it two or three times!
I hear what you are saying about some of the expats from other developing countries not being as good as you might like, but it all comes back to the pay and location again. You get what you pay for...
Still nowhere is perfect and variety is the spice of life!

The best thing going in Sri Lankan is that the scoundrels are leaving or have left!!! the rest are just barking dogs who have no clue to what they have or been given...just greedy and that goes without saying for sri lankans.
When the cookie crumbles then only will the fools know the value of expats in the company.
They tried going to courts to stop a expat promotion and the case got thrown out...tails between their legs they decided to hide the fact by making deals with the management...but that too was known to all and finally the expat got two ratings for nothing at all......now talk about sri lankan complaining about the taxes they have to pay!!!
Th best thing ever to happen here is the leaving of some flubber and micer!!!!!

I enquired about a year ago, and the info I was given was:
salary US$8K per month
training if not endorsed on A320 taken out at 500 a month for almost the duration of the contract, about 30K total
there was an accom component but I don't recall how much
other conditions I can't remember eithe
