PAL entry

Does anyone know how one can get in to Philippine Air Lines either as F/O or S/O in their heavy metal ? for someone holding an Australian CPL/ME/IFR, total time less than 500 hrs.

I need to help a friend.

Thanks

By being a Filipino/Filipina for a start, and then applying.

For those not too fast on the uptake..
(i) Being a Filipino/Filipina for a start;
(okay she passes on that one - Oz residency for a Filipino passport holder, is merely an Australian Gov't visa stamp in her Philippine passport )

(ii) and then applying;
(Now just in case that wasn't too clear, that means sending an application to PAL )

(iii) Wait for a reply from PAL;

(iv) If they are interested, they will respond - sometimes they might reply, but say she doesn't have enough experience. Then again they might ask her to go for an interview

No, I don't know PAL's direct hiring hotline, nor their email address...or even their postal one.
As a friend trying to help out, YOU can research that for her!

Gee Kraptin M that's a bit harsh! Maybe part of him helping her is researching Pprune to see if anybody has any info.. anyway, she might try Cebu Pacific, or Air Philippines as well, they might be more likely to hire a low-timer...sniffed around a bit myself being married to one, and found nothing for non-Filipino citizens....good luck.

Kaptin M - geezzz, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something ?........ all I needed was helpful advises and I get bagged........ last thing I need really when I am just trying to help someone out. Next thing you know, I'd be defending my post.

Slow on the uptake ? I hardly think that skipping the obvious ( eg. being a citizen of that country, lodging application and wait for the yay or nay ) can be anything but that.
Last time I looked that's the usual series of events when applying for a job. Thus, wanting to just skip on to the useful bits.... like contact details and others which is apparent that you dont have from your response.

To the others.......... much appreciated.

Keep it coming guys.............

Medical can be transferrded to Filipine one from CASA no problem.
For CPL, she probably needs to take Air Low written Exam for conversion.
For ATP, I think she has to take a check ride and Air Low written.
All airlines out there requires training bond (5 years?).
Good Luck.

With her total hours its better for her to apply to the cadet scheme. I had 3000 tt when I applied and never got a response from them. I tried too hard actually, I even hand delivered my resume when I was in Manila.

You need to know somebody from the inside, unfortunately.

Thanks to all who replied.........

Ironbutt57 - we will send her resume to the other two airlines as well as you mentioned. 3 choices is better than just one.

Bsnews - If its only a checkride and an Airlaw exam then that should not be too much of a hindrance. We were hoping it would be just that as the US ATP requires me to sit one exam and a flight test so hoping it would be like that for her as well.

Medwin - I was a bit stunned when you said that "you need to know someone from the inside" - you might as well have taken one of the execs out for a beer and dinner and see how you went.
I wouldnt be surprised if we need to bribe someone in the process.

D6, making application to join - your initial post said only PAL - an airline in the Phils, is no different to applying to any other airline anywhere else in the world. With the exception of Medwin's tip.
Like tinass, I too am married to a lady from the Philippines (legally, in Australia), and I worked for Air Philippines during their start-up. However, it's a fact of life that you will "enhance" your application if you are able to make a contact on the inside. Mind you, this is NO different to ANY other company ANYWHERE in the world.

Believe it or not, there are lots of pilots in G.A. in the Philippines who are trying just as hard as you, and your lady friend, to crack a slot with one of the bigger companies.
The initial intakes of F/O's into Air Philippines were pilots who had refused to "scab" during the PAL strike in the late 1980's, and who had been flying G.A. equipment ever since - just waiting to get their chance again.

The Philippines is NO different to any other country - there are pilots who have been doing it hard for years, waiting for THEIR chance to join an airline in THEIR country.
Unfortunately, occasionally, people in "positions" are susceptible to "promoting" relations/friends, by using their position - but again, this isn't something that is exclusively Filipino!

Kaptin M - Thanks for the tip.

From what you've said: "to make contact from the inside" to "enhance" your chances of getting in I assume is still a common practice.

This is highly irregular but I'd say - bring it on. If there's a will there's a way.... we better get cracking then and better adapt the "can do" attitude.

I only wish I knew someone from the QF panel but I'm not sure it'll work here.

I'm keeping an ear out for her in our company if there are any vacant slots for a right seat in one of our turbo-props. But her hours are not enough.
At this stage, she has managed to get a charter job out of Bankstown NSW flying chieftains through a mate of mine.

She'll be going to the Philippines soon to work on this.
I'll probably go with her IF I can get annual leave which might pose a problem since I only started flying for them a month ago.

Come to think of it, someone offered me a flying job there ferrying live chooks.

Hey Delta Six,

I was just wondering what happened with your lady friend who tried to apply at PAL, any luck? I'm not sure if this is true, but apparently, PAL is not too keen on hiring female pilots.

Any news or update would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
