Thumbs down

Seems to me, some people might have found the truth a little hard to face up to - "loss of face", the Asian expression for being "caught out" after telling a lie (or lies).

I agree though, the JAL Express management - from what my friends have told me - are a disgrace to the parent company, JAL, as they are representative of the values of of Japan Air Lines, which in turn is the public representative of Japan (and Japanese), because they are Japan's national carrier.

JAL Express management have reportedly been anything BUT truthful, forthright, honest, and trustworthy in their contract dealings.
And if the people at the top are like that, one has to assume it filters down, right throughout the entire company.

JAL contract pay

What are the payrates for Capt and F/O for the JALways 747s that operate out of HNL? IASCO, HACS, WASINC?

Question

Hmm, where DID it go?

Strangely enough, I had been reading it that morning, and commented to one of the JAL staff about it, and asked if it were true about Koreans not being allowed to gain Japanese citizenship even if 2/3/4th generation Japanese born.
The reply, "Umm, may be". ("Maybe" in this country means they are being asked to give you an answer that they think you probably won't like, son instead of "Yes", or "No", it's "May...be").

Curiously enough, the whole topic had vanished that evening.

Some people, I feel, may not have liked what Jap jock, said, but I believe he/they told it the way it has been for most of the gaijin LIVING and working for some Japanese airlines over the past 1/2 dozen or so years.

So, WHO pulled the thread?
Was it a moderator, at the request of one of the Japanese companies, or recruitment agencies..................or was it the original thread starter?

A reply would be much appreciated.

I guess the thread was kidnapped by a UFO for medical experiments...hopefully it will reappear on a dirt road somewhere in Montana...maybe a bit dazed and confused and it may need to see a psychologist for counciling.

I have a couple of questions, is JAL Express the same as JALWAYS? Also, it seems domestic air travel is picking up in Japan, like to confirm if this true.

The problem I had with the last thread is that the person in question could have communicated his displeasure with his contract employment w/o the blatent racial remarks. I've seen his kind before in Japan. They would be just as uncomfortable in NYC as they would be in Tokyo in terms of cultural issues.

I love it when people complain about Japan...try flying over here in the States for a regional doing 6 legs per day in snow storms making $19/hr on first year F/O pay with furloughs looming every month. Asia is where its at, and many of us "yanks" are heading that way.

To be honest, I know guys flying with the contract companies in Japan and they love it...they also like living in Japan as well...

As I had only limited time to read the subject, I can't pass comment on any "blatant racial remarks", Stereolab.
I do remember thinking that there may have been more than one contributor penning under the same name, though.

You also need to LIVE and work here, to understand the frustration at the ongoing erosion of gaijins' work conditions, "because the company has no money" on the one hand, and the continued INCREASE in the Japanese pilots' (conditions), on the other.
When someone tells bare-faced lies, how can you respect that person - regardless of his "title" eg. Vice President???

Well there's a message there, pal!!
Flying might be fun, but you're NEVER going to get anywhere working for that sort of (cr@p) money.
Time to reconsider your employment career path, imho.
Unfortunately, low time pilots are going to find as much of a problem finding work in Asia, as they will in the US.

Thanks for your replies. B.E., and PPT.

Kaptin M,

I agree with you on many respects...

As far as my condition, I've been flying regional jets for 3 years and before that, Charter...and like many F/O's in the States, I'm looking for new opportunities. Fortunately for me, I have the required mins for various F/O positions with contract carriers like IASCO, PARC etc. Many F/O's at regionals are starting to look elsewhere because the US domestic airline industry continues to decline with no end in sight.

As far as me understanding the frustrations of gaijins living in Japan: I agree with you that contract worker rights are being abused in Japan, but this in indicative of EVERY gaijin in every profession, from teaching english to flying 747's. Although I don't live in Japan, I've spent a good amount of time in Tokyo and Osaka, also my wife is Japanese so " I know the score". I would also add that I've seen many European pilots come over to the the States and they feel abused by the American system of low pay, long hours and zero job security. You get a job at a regional airline in the states, training is 3 months with no paycheck till IOE and your lucky if hotel accomadations are provided, usually they don't pay for hotels during training. Would you rather fly a Q400 for a regional in the States or in Japan?

As I stated before, the people I know flying in Japan are flying JALWAYS (747) and ANA (767) and they love it. So, my main point is, I agree things may not be great in Japan, but at least pilots flying contract don't have 20 years at a US legacy carrier and your pension is completely wiped out and your company is in CH11.

Stereolab,

If I read correctly, you are a regional FO. You may consider an upgrade to captain in a regional jet and get at least 500 hours PIC time before you will be seriously considered for most of the contract positions.

You have an advantage of understanding the Japanese culture, which is good.

I wish you well, but you will be competing for jobs with guys who have several years of airline experience. The one thing to your advantage, not all of the competitors are serious about getting the job.

Send me a PM if you need info on JALways, as I flew there prior to Atlas.

So what are the contract rates for JALways 747 Capt and F/O?
IASCO, HACS, WASINC????

Which has the better contract?

How do these rates compare with mainline JAL 747 pilots?
