MAS recruitment

I was told that MAS currently has no plans to open recruitment of cadet pilots.

Is there any1 who can comment on this? cheers...

haha.... are you sure? well, they must be ALL WRONG!! Because they're dying for pilots. There's even an opening NOW! Check out The Star Ad on 21 Feb and correct me if iam wrong......

Who ever told u that either dosent want u to join MAS or is an ex employee. i beleive they are going back to recruiting 200 cadets a year, as soon as they cant sort out where to send them! Mas needs F/o really badly and with the current expansion and with the 380's in the future, they better start soon. But then again we're talking about MAS! Management knows best!

damn it!

i saw d ad on 21st!!!!

i called MAS HR Dept and one lady told me that they hav no plans to open for recruitment. damn it...how could they say such a thing?

anyway i'll be sending my application tomoro. any1 knw how long they wil take to reply? what is recruitment process like?

what???

if MAS HR told you that they're NOT opening for recruitment, ask them why are they placing ad's for such jobs?? Not only that, they're even promoting it at their recent MAS Travel Fair?? What wrong with them?? abit slow I guess?? Unbelievable.... Just a moment ago I was saying good things about them, but...

Okay, about the process, Not too sure... but involves some Pysch (or something like that) Test, IQ Test, Medical and the HOLDING FILE.......

The process is short, but the holding is long, if ur lucky, u get it in 1 month time, but most waited for a year maybe 2??

And maybe the Pyschomoto (or something like that.....) test is now on the F50 or 737 sim bcoz rumours had it that the Pyschomoto machine thinggy is spoilt.

Okays, good luck to all.....Albiet wat i say, MAS is still a good company to work for.... (no comments bout management though)

what's d Holding file and Pyschomoto test all abt?

waiting for a yr or 2??? that's practically too long...i knw i should hav d patience but i don think i hav

Thats where all the sucessful applicants get the wait of their life.... hehe. Just be patient, coz if ur in the file, they'll call you.... but dont know how soon....

oh ok...i was cracking my head thinking what holding file was. haha...i heard abt d coordination test but not sure how its actually done.

i think all i hav to do is to be patient and pray hard for a quick reply!!!

Hey All,

About MAS min req:-

CADET PILOT PROGRAM...
Basic Requirements:
# Malaysian citizen.
# Grade 1 in SPM with six (6) credits including Bahasa Malaysia and minimum of C3 in Mathematics, Physic and English taken at one sitting. Higher academic qualification will be an added advantage.
# For candidates sitting SPM from year 2000 onwards: six (6) credits including Bahasa Malaysia and minimum of 3B in Mathematics, Physic and English taken at one sitting.
# Between 18 to 26 years old.
# Fluent in English.
# Mentally and physically fit with good eyesight without optical aids and not colour blind.
# At least 163 cm (5 ft 4 in. ) tall.
# Prepared to undergo vigorous training up to twenty months.
# Prepared to sign training bond.
# No criminal record.

DIRECT ENTRY CO-PILOTS
# Malaysian CPL/IR with Frozen ATPL
# Class 1 DCA Medical
# Malaysian Citizen
# Will be on 2 years contract

SELECTION PROCESS
The process consists of five phases, namely:
# Pre screening of application.
# Psychomotor Skill test.
# Psychometric Tests.
# Interview.
# Medical examination.
# Final Selection.

thanks for the info!

i'm surprised to see the selection process is nt too long. i heard SIA and BA have other tests like maths, group discussions, 2 interviews etc.

hopefully MAS wil call me up soon. keep fingers crossed

The requirements were as I-Fly-R posted. You may be called/attend the selection process many times in your lifetime as long as you do not fail the final interview. However you are limited one one try a year.

Upon successful selection for the process, you will be called by HR to attend a psychomotor evaluation at the SIM building in SBZ. This process is basically a computer game to evaluate your hand and eye coordination. Then there is a character/IQ evaluation. Basically answering simple questions. This is where they are most likely to fault you if they think you aren't suitable for their "requirement" and FAIL you.

If you receive the nextphonecall, which could be a 1-2mth lapse, depending on how urgent FLT OPS requires manpower, you enter the SIM stage. This is where they plonk you in the LHS seat for some basic handling in the F50 simulator. EFATO, inst appr and eng out handling are the norms. U need not be techically proffient in the aircraft type. They just want to evaluate your cockpit behavior and handling skills.

If you receive the next phonecall... yet again 1-2mths lapse, off you go to have a full medical. It doesn't get more thorough then this....

The next phonecall is the most exciting, and hardest to wait. The interview with the big guns. This is where you make it. Tech knowledge is impt here and so is appearence. Should you make it in....another 1-2 mths wait...CONGRATULATIONS!

that's tough!

wow...thanks a lot for d thorough explanation....now i'm feeling a bit worried.

but....don't u think that's a bit toooooo long?? for those who have jus completed SPM, the duration from the application til final interview, they could have completed A-levels or some foundation program in a college!!!

u mean MAS expect us to do something else (like taking a course or work) when we plan to be a pilot? some would have enrolled in a diploma/degree course and does MAS expect them to leave the course half way through?

well, probably its a way to test us to make sure that we r serious in the career. but honestly, i feel that its too long. i agree with the dif type of tests they hav, but not to the extend of waiting 1-2 months just to know that we hav passed the test. so if we fail? continue waiting? till when?

sigh...........GOD HELPPPPP MEEEE.............................

hehe.... yup, you better start looking for a job now! part time or something.... until you're 26. then you can give up!
not wishing u bad or anything, but thats the way this is. MAS.....

TO ALL.... just a enlightning moment...

anyways, just back from Sing for asian aerospace and guess what! on the way in to sing (using MAS) we overshot the gate and had to be towed back to position! isnt tat "beyond expectations". hehe. Anyways, on the way back today, we had some tech prob (MAS again) and we had to be send to the gate. Its ok for me, but the really odd thing was they didnt let us out of the a/c until we we're all sweating like lobsters. I just cant believe this.... maybe trying to rectify an APU problem or electrical or ac packs or something.... but next time, they could atleast let us out???? hmmmmm........ SAD! and all they say is TECHNICAL PROBLEM. I think the passengers have the right to know wat is the problem. Many travellers nowadays understand basic a/c stuff.... but. (sigh!) anyways.... thats really a great way to be "BEYOND EXPECTATIONS"

that's bad. is MAS that beyond expectation? its has been quite some time since i got into a MAS a/c. not sure what's going on now.

so how's the asian aerospace thingy? anything intersting to share? (ooops...off topic!)

Hello,

Just to keep you informed, the aircraft had to be towed back due to the aircond unit couldn't be switched off, so procedurally, there was nothing the crew could have done to get the engine started. Unfortunately, to explain to the pax the engine couldn't be started becoz the aircon couldn't be switched off will actually get the pax to pose a lot more question then the cabin crew can answer.

Unfortunately, the engineers had wanted to do some troubleshooting just in case the problem could be rectified immediately, and for that, the APU bleed had to be switched off (so no aircon to the cabin). The aerobridge operator had to be found from somewhere and it took quite a while before they arrived. In the mean time, the tempearature got really hot in the cockpit, so to minimize the heat build up in the cabin, the passengers were advised to close the window shade. And unfortunately, the problem couldnt be fixed while the aerobridge operator was still on his way. So, there was not much that could have been done at that particular point as the engineers were trying other multiple options to troubleshoot the problem.

Anyway, we sincerely do apologize for the inconvenience. We understand that the passengers have every right to be dissappointed, but we will try to make up for it, in any way we can to our friends who have continued to support us over the years. We are in the process of upgrading our aircrafts to better reflect the quality of operations expected of us from our passengers. Hopefully, our passengers will not have to go through all this again in the future...

i believe u to be the capt or co-jo onboard this flight? anyways, thanx for the info. great posting. if only it was told to us earlier, then maybe i always understand tat the crew is trying to do their best. I never doubt them. because i know how it feels to be a crew anyways, hope that it wont happen again and thanx once again for the insight of things......

i'm really getting impatient waiting for MAS to reply. it feels like as though i'm waiting without an aim and not know whether or nt i'll receive a reply. wait til when, i also don't knw. sigh.......
