strike at singapore airlines

Re various posts decrying Singapore laws preventing strikes:
I recently heard that csa Czech airline pilots had a wage dispute and, to make their point, and instead of a walk-out, sick-out or no-show/no-call, started to adhere to every procedure and checklist and do everything exactly ‘by the book’ which caused quite some delays.

I could only find something to the effect of the dispute being settled , so I don’t know any details, if it‘s at all true or if it indeed had any swaying power with the management, but it SOUNDS brilliant. Especially the legal part - can’t see how you could be breaching contract or breaking law by adhering to procedures instead of cutting corners in an accepted ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ manner allowed by everything being over-regulated to death and necessitated by pressure to cut down on time. Any chance something like that could be staged with sq?

Was done at Cathay two years ago, and has an astonishing effect. HUge delays, and sacking of 50 odd pilots as a result.

Natedog74 What you are suggesting could never happen in SQ or in Singapore in general.

What you do not realise is the total control that the Government has over it's citizens and they can make or break anyone who causes trouble.

There is no real opposition in Singapore. When anyone with political ambitions of the opposite view puts his head up above the parapet they get sued for slander and libel which forms a steady regular income for the SM and the PM!!

In a recent slander case such as I described the defendant was not allowed to use a particular Australian QC because he had dared to question the legal system in Singapore when he saw the cosy set up between the Judiciary and the Government.

Well it could just work, we did it in the mid 90"s. Followed the sop right down to the paper it was made from.Gears down at GS capture and the like. We achived quite a bit. Its amazing the amount of fuel used. Flying is economic's, and the sop dosent have much of it!

I dont think SQ and MI realize how many people are going to be leaving the group in the next 12 months for greener pastures. MI especially is going to be in trouble as they run captain numbers so thinly.

A strike may not be needed.

I am just waiting to see how many will be leaving SIA, in my opinion around 25 captains will be leaving SIA for EK.

I hope you are right Twitchy, because it would sent a clear signal that there is life outside Singapore. But as I said before I have heard these "leaving" stories now for more than 15 years and I still have to see the first real Exodus. SQ pilots always hang around for the next bonus or back-pay or whatever other scheme is in the pipeline. Don't ho;d your breath, two or three might leave, the rest will hang on for more punishment.

TWITCHY
From your posting you imply that Emirates is going to soon need and take direct entry Captains. Without divulging your sources(presuming they are secret), is there a factual basis for this?
Are you employed there, know someone who is, just have knowledge of this?

EK is going to need drivers for the A340-300's that they purchased from Boeing, (ex-SIA birds).

Does anybody know how many A340s EK will be getting through Boeing? I guess Boeing is becoming a Used airplane lot!

CAL has one of the A340s coming soon and that would make 7 A340s for CAL with the last one not being expected. Maybe the Bus guys will go to work a little more <bg>!
