taiwanese class 1 medical - how hard to get???

I have heard some horrible stories about the Taiwanese class 1 initial medical examination for china airlines..., it takes two full days days... are they really looking for pilots or astronauts??... what are they examining for 2 days????... compared to CASA's class 1 initial which only takes 2 hours max... any insight and help appreciated....

If you haven't exercise much, make sure you start now! They will pretty much probe everything on you. And yeah, like you said it, it's like an astronaut medical from top to bottom, left and right.

Good Luck!

It's not that bad

I took the Taiwanese medical in 1996, 1997, and 1998. It isn't that difficult, just thorough. Among the things they check/do are: full blood test, chest x-ray, full hearing test, full eye exam, resting EKG, stress EKG, EEG ( brainscan, it's real fun when they try to induce epilepsy with the strobe light ). Also some coordination exercises designed by them for pilots. In the end it is just a typical government gone overboard meal ticket arrangement for the doctors and staff. It's called job security,.... for them anyway. The nice thing about it is that if you actually have a problem, like cancer, they will most likely find it.

It is one of the best all over check-ups you can get. The equivelant check-up in the States or Europe would cost you a fortune and takes forever. Some of my friends did the whole thing with absolutely no plans what so ever to join CAL, but left with the good feeling that everything was ticking. Where can you get a full medical with hotac meals and a free ticket.

Gee, looks like free-loading to me. I hope this doesn't set a precedent where in the future, airlines will require you to pay for your own pre-employment medical.

Just an opinion...no offence meant.

Cheers.

I hear you 777 and you have a very valid point , but isn't it time that at we as pilots get something for free. For too long the employers could make insane demands like, pay for your own ticket, pay for your own medical, pay for your own hotel, thanks for coming you will hear from us!!! let's face it sometimes a freebee tastes good!
