IGRUA... yep or nope ??? :O
Hey Guys!
I've always had a passion for flying... its like a religion to me.. I wanted to go for acquiring a CPL as soon as i was done up with my 10+2... but my parents did not allow me to go for it.. So i went up for graduation n now i m a fresh IT graduate(with 1st class).. But i had deep within my heart the love for flying..so i took up to IGRUA this year... i have cleared the Entrance 2011 n with all confidence will also clear the Aptitude Test n Interview... but i m super confused with what is being heard about jobless pilots.. sad that such is the situation.. but i also hear that IGRUAns are given a priority in the industry... is it true that IGRUA conducts "campus placements" for its students to be enrolled in Air India n Jet Airways (thats what i've heard n read on the internet)... do IGRUAns really have an advantage over others?? (ex or current IGRUAns plz help!) shall i go for my flight training with IGRUA this year or not?? Plz Help!! All hears towards ua suggestions... P.S. : "yep" or "nope"??? THNX !! |
Igrua is famous for it's on campus placement in Air India.
but right now keeping in mind the problems which air India is facing its not the place to be in. Recently the finance minister is planning to freeze the expansion plan of AI.( AI :=:=:=) Pilots don't get their salaries on time, flying less than 50 hrs on 777's..blah blah... dont worry there's another institute in india which over smarts IGRUA it's National flying training institute (NFTI) CAE Global Academy Gondia Impressed with the quality of training which NFTI gives Recently Indigo made a tie-up with this institute for Cadet Pilot programme. IGRUA is no more the no. 1 flying academy. NFTI is just 2 years old and in a position to compete 25yrs old IGRUA. think over it ... |

Those who made it and did not make it the list was on the IGRUA website As for Jet Airways you will still have to compete with every other CPL holder that gets called for the assessments ( about 2000-3000 ) And thank your parents for not letting you do your CPL after 10+2 and made you go for graduation :D |

hey i know about NFTI...but its too expensive (4.5 million Rs.)... also IGRUA is gonna be a full fledge International Aviation University in the coming 2-3 years....thats what has been decided by the management and the govt. jointly.. thnx for ur replies though.. :) |

You are a graduate. If you are so passionate about flying just go for it. Just be aware that at the end of it, you might and will most likely be without a job for atleast half a year if not a whole year.
No one know what the market will be like in 2 years when you get your CPL. It might be booming like mad, or it might be in the biggest slump ever. If you so desperately want to fly don't worry about the job, just look forward to the flights. Being a graduate you can always get a job after your CPL to fund your days. If you expect a job the 2nd day after you get your CPL, please go join Infosys or TCS right now. It doesn't work that way in the aviation industry. You can have a cushy life testing code for some company in the US and get paid well for it. If you do decide on a CPL, just make sure you do well. Learn the ins and outs of the field. Know your theory to the core, and be the best of your class. You are bound to get hired, hopefully more sooner than later. To put it plainly, if I was in your place (and I sort-of am) then its a big YEP. Go for it. Seeing how you describe it to be your religion, don't disapoint your God. |
AmateurAviatorAlways - The aviation industry may/may not have a bright future. No offence to the group here, but I'm being honest and I suggest you take advice from people 'working' in the industry and not from some of us who haven't got there yet. As for this thread, it is best we give you tips regarding schools and countries recommended for flight training etc.

Igrua or nfti
I have been following this pprune since last 2 years.
And cant let anyone say anything about igrua because they dont know the reality (or they dont want to face the reality). Igrua is one of the best training schools in this world. I am from igrua. And training period is average 20 months. Air india came for campus placements in october 2008 selected about 20-30 pilots. After that air india campus took place in august 2010. Selected 62 out of 80 pilots and gave all 62 offer letters (http://www.igrua.gov.in/ail_appointments.pdf) ..joining 25 th july 2011...that means except for 18 pilots who passed out from igrua till august 2010 are placed in air india..and since then another 30-40 pilots passed out till now..they surely have a better chance for recruitment due to igruas brand name... But i am sure in the coming days there wont be 100% placement at igrua..but you will have a better chance of recruitment. As far as nfti gondia is concerned....i dont know what to say... I will tell you two facts about nfti 1) nfti is canvassing that indigo had campus placements at gondia..but the truth is that nfti pilots got through cae test conducted every month and not that indigo specifically came to nfti.. 2) i have heard that some students were in a dilemma to join nfti and igrua...they secured their admission in nfti and gave igruas entrance test...guess what ....all of them failed igruas entrance test....its like nfti told igrua to fail them so that they dont go to igrua .. This shows which is the best akademi in india... |
It's very amusing when people talk about IGRUA being the "best training institute in the world" ! (as though some world wide detailed study and comparison has been done of all flying schools world over) !!!
Nothing related to aviation in India can come even a distant second compared to anything on a global scale. Aviation in India in all aspects paints a sorry state of affairs. I have a good laugh when people talk about IGRUA and it's advantage over other schools due to it's "campus placements" !! :D Campus placements, my a$$ ... get placed where ? ... AIR INDIA !!! Super cool ! :D:D World's ****tiest airline. They've been bagging this award consistently now. f#cked up standards, despicable .. everything from it's management, training, safety, customer service, OTP .. (typical maharaja culture biting them back in their asses) for those drooling over IGRUA/AI campus placements ... there are several guys and girls who are still waiting for sims to begin. I understand the overseas CPL holders will show their animosity towards IGRUA due to Air India's biased recruitment - but terming IGRUA as 'one of the best flight training schools in the world' is more than an overstatement. There has been no scale so far from 1-10 when it comes to rating the best flight training schools. There are heaps in UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa that could be rated one of the best! I'm pretty sure IGRUA can never stand up to them. I agree the pilots from IGRUA have been recruited in good numbers lately, but that doesn't mean they are the best. IGRUA is an initiative of the Govt. of India and Air India is the lone airline owned by the Govt. of India. Of course, they need to do a favour of some sort and recruit pilots from their academy, or it would be closed doors for IGRUA. Moreover, there aren't any other fully operational flying schools for the academy to compete with at the moment. Please don't conclude by stating - We have campus placement and we're among the best in the world.

Recruitment of pilots into Air India has always been questionable .
Especially when a lot of Air India captains and other Air India employees have their sons and daughter working as pilots http://www.pprune.org/south-asia-far...ml#post6591807 Maybe the reason they go to IGRUA is because they have their relatives who are enrolled or who are graduates and sitting at home without jobs So no surprises if those selected from IGRUA in 2010 had some sort of pull within Air India whereas those who didnt make the cut didnt have the right people in the right places Just Speculating :E IGRUA and NFTI are hands down the best in India :D But on a global scale I would think twice before making that statement . Especially if you havent flown in those countries But i would blame any shortcomings ( if any ) in your training not your flying school but rather in the environment you learnt to fly and the authority that monitors you aka THE ALMIGHTY DGCA :E |
Well...just like i said ....u guys dont want to face the reality...
I never said that IGRUA is the best school in the world...i said its among the best..... And surely it is... All our people are able to clear their ATPL papers in 1/2 attempts....including orals....i am sure out of the 30 currently unemployed with igrua, most of them are having frozen atpl...so who do u think an airline would prefer ..a 200 hour cpl holder or 200 frozen atpl holder... Where as most of the outsiders are struggling for atpl... Its not just about atpl papers.... I have personally seen and done simulators with some outsiders in igrua... They didnt knew a bit about jeppessen...i am not saying every1 is like that but..i know for sure 100% whats the difference between an Igruan and an outsider... And you wont get it unless u personally visit igrua and see for yourself.... I know how the training done in usa ....faa question banks...flying done 4-8 months.... Seriously .... And then you take 4-6 attempts to clear your dgca...then again sepnd money for recency and all.... Anyways guys ...i wold say only one thing.... I am sure of training standards of igrua .... But it dosent matter if u can fly an aircraft or not ....even a monkey can learn that... What matters is your knowledge....so keep on studying... Dont just keep saying ..no jobs...no jobs.... I am sure a good pilot will never be jobless... Your knowledge level is what matters... And if you have the guts ....why dont u give atpl exams... Good luck |

IGRUA is the best flying school in India because IGRUA is the ONLY flying school in India. :E
Ofcourse, there are a few frauds like Baramati, Yash Air, Flytech etc which are now non-entities and a few defunct ones like Madras flying club etc. and also because .. CAMPUS PLACEMENTS !!! into the sh!t hole called Air India. :D:D |

IGRUA is definitely not the best school in the world. But it's one of the better schools.
It's far better than the average flying schools in USA or Canada and way better than any flying school in the Philippines. In India IGRUA and NFTI are the only two schools where you have decent facilities and good quality training. Which one is better will be a tough question. One has been around for decades providing good and consistent training and the other though it was started recently has got a lot of good reviews. It needs to be seen if NFTI can maintain its standard in the future as well. About IGRUAs campus recruitment by AI. Not too long ago people were envying the fresh CPL holders from IGRUA who got into AI. Its tough times for AI and its employees and I hope the issues are resolved soon. The Govt seems to have realized the gravity of the situation and seem to be doing something about it. Only time will tell whats in store for AI and its employees in the future. I heard a bit about CHIMES aviation some time ago. Any one know if its still around? |
the average time to complete training from igrua is 20 months...you may complete in 14 months as well if you are able to clear all your dgca and rt papers in first or second attempt....and plus you need to be at the right place and right time...sometimes luck also plays a factor...
