RTR (A) - RTR (P) - RTR (C) Issues
Hi Guys... i did my flying from Philippines and after coming to India my foreign RT was converted to Indian RTR (P) which was valid till march 2011 so now please suggest me how can i get the Indian RT...
1. Either i give Indian RTR exams and get lifetime RT 2. Or what are the other options Please help with all your options... thanks in advance.... |
OK at the risk of sounding rude there are numerous threads about this so please do look for threads before you decide to make one. and to answer your question, if you have a current CPL and RT from a commonwealth country you can just submit your documents and you will get a life time RT. but if you only have an RT from a commonwealth country and not a CPL then you need flying experience of 30 hrs in the previous 6 month or you need to clear part 1. Hope this helps.

Man my Foreign CPL and Foreign RT both were valid till 31st March 2011 and WPC issued me RTR (P) till 31st March 2011 so in short all 3 lapsed so now what....

If I remember from my old days & I don't think that rules of WPC have changed much,......
It was 30 hrs as a Radio operator not 30 Hrs PIC or DUAL, so 30 hrs as a safety pilot counts if a CFI from any flying club or training school can give U a certificate that U flew those hrs with another pilot, who could be a PPL holder & U are his passenger & RT operator......... |

Regarding the RTR, I have an expired Indian RTR(A) which I am trying to renew but I have to give the WPC exam again. I will do the exam if I absolutely have to but we all know what a big joke that one is..... I am trying to figure out a way that I don't have to give the WPC exam at all. U said if U have a RT from a commonwealth country Like CANADA, & have flown 30 hrs in the last 6 months, we can get the RTR, which we need to renew the FRTOL. Now, someone wrote in a similar RT thread that U need CPL+IR + RT from the common wealth country in order not to give any WPC exams. If possible, I like the CANADA RT route much better, it is a lot easier for me. What is your take, 1) Do we need RT alone or RT+CPL/IR from CANADA/ CW country 2) Do we get the life time RT or do they issue an RTR(C) for whatever is the validity of foriegn RT & CPL. It doesn't matter but I ask just for knowledge sake. |

see a friend of mine 8 months ago did this. he was holding an faa cpl so he went to canada converted his faa cpl to a candian one, plus he did his canadian rt, in that case he converted directly to an rtr A or C (not sure, dont remember which one) by paying 10000 and he got it for lifetime. but if you have only the canadian rt and not the cpl then you need 30 hrs in the previous 36 months or part 1 and in this situation your rtr will have a 20 year valiidity but with the uk rt the rtr is valid till your uk rt expires. I have heard of late this whole business of converting your faa cpl to a canadian one hasnt worked at the wpc in the last couple of months but then again im not sure ive just heard this from people so please dont take my word for it. but i hope ive cleared any doubts you may have had. if you do know people in delhi your best bet would be to ask them to go to wpc and inquire about the candian cpl and canadian rt thing. cheers. |
acc. to what i have been told:
1. you need at least CPL + RT 2. and validity is fixed that is 20 yrs i am not sure about the life time validity whether that option is still there or not. |

Thanks for the replies bro...... Yeah I have the FAA CPL & 30 hrs in the last 2 months, that's why Canada looked very appealing... It doesn't matter if they issue life time or 20 yrs or even 5, it's the matter of getting it 1st time without the test... Not that I am scared, I have cleared all my tests in India at one time, just now I am out of the scene. As far the CANADA conversion, do U know where ur friend went.. or do U know any places where most of the people go to for conversion of FAA TO CANADIAN CPL +RT BTW, are U in US?? |
Part-1&2 = Get RTR(A) for lifetime
Part-1 = Get RTR(C) on you foreign FRTOL for max validity of your FRTOL. No Part 1&2 = Gets you RTR(P) on basis of FRTOL+CPL( Commonwealth Country CPL ).Validity depends on the license which expires first. Direct Conversion of Canadian FRTOL + Canadian CPL - Validity will depend on WPC rules( Last i heard they are only issuing 5 year RTR-C not 20 year RTR-C ) You will need 30 hours in last 36 months for Direct conversion or Permit. |

I got mine renewed last month and was a fool to listen to my company chaps who said that that i could get only a validity of 3 years even if i paid 10k. I paid 5, i got 20 .....:ugh::ugh::ugh: |
Correctamundo, bad attitude ! I gave them a DD of 5000 INR along with the application form 2 months ago and I got the RTR(P) issued with a validity of 20 years.

As per the current rules, part 1 plus 5k gives u an rtr(c) for 20 years and 10k will get u a lifetime one. As u said that, could you please confirm that if u clear part-1 and make a 10,000 DD will stand you a chance to get it for lifetime?, because, underneath the result issued by wpc, it says that only part-1 candidate will get it for 20 years( DD of 5000), and the ones who cleared full RT will get 2 options, either they go for 20 years (5000 DD) or they go for life time (10,000DD). inshort is there anyway to get a lifetime(10,000 DD) after clearing part-1 only? |
Hi kush, i just read your previous post.... Yes, give part 1 asap, 10k DD and you'll get a lifetime rtr. Dont trust anyone else who tells you differently.

i am already done with part-1(i mean i passed it) in this chennai attempt, now i am confuse wheather to send them a 5000DD or 10000, coz it(WPC) says part-1 candidates will have to make 5000DD and they will get it for 20 years.... Life time rule is only for full RT.... |

No one gets lifetime RTR license by just passing Part1 only if your renewing your OLD RTR(A) then Part1 will get you a lifetime one. Accordingly, it has been decided by this Ministry that the following modified procedures will be adopted for conversion/issue of Permit against a Foreign FRTOL: i) The holders of Commercial Pilot License (CPL), Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and Flight Engineers License (FEL) from all Commonwealth countries and Philippines will be considered for issue of Indian Radio Telephony Permits directly in lieu of their foreign Flight Radio Telephony Licenses (FRTOLs) provided their FRTOLs are issued from the same Administration from where their Flight Crew Licenses (CPL/ATPL/FEL) have been issued. ii) The Foreign FRTOLs holders not meeting the above criterion will be required to pass the Part I of RTR (A) examination conducted by this Ministry, for enabling them to have Indian Permit. iii) The Foreign FRTOLs, issued from countries/Administrations other than Commonwealth and Philippines, will not be entitled either for direct conversion or waiver for the Part II RTR (A) examination. iv) The validity of the converted Foreign FRTOLs, based upon passing of Part-1 RTR (A) examination, will be for a maximum period of 3 years with effect from date of declaration of examination results or till the validity of Foreign FRTOL; whichever is less. The converted license can be renewed every 3 years subject to fulfilling of renewal criteria of RTR (A) licenses and validity of Foreign FRTOL. v) The validity of the directly converted Foreign FRTOLs (refer Para-(i) above) will be till the validity of Foreign FRTOL or Pilot/Flight Engineer License or 3 years; whichever is earlier. I am in the US but I am not an instructor yet. I am working on getting my CFI, II & MEI, but I also want to get my Indian Lic current which got expired for a long time....
I will find some schools in Vancouver or Toronto, the process is very easy to get FAA to Canadian...... Only difficult process in the world is dealing with DGCA......... Not a rant, just a passing comment....... |
Hello guys,reading the threads for canadian rt and cpl i have got the info but i am little confused with the discussions...
My case is i am in Florida working on my IR and Commercial...Will be done with it in 1-1/2 to 2 months max. Well i went to india after doing my PPL got thru with 2 of my exams MET and REG and gave the RT attempt.I flunked in RT...Had taken a UK RT with me....Well have many of indian friends here in my school who are going to canada after there CPL to get there CPL converted and to get the RT also. Seeing the situation in india of the RT exams i am very sure of getting my recency confirmed...So i am also thinking of taking the canadian RT and the CPL converted... Just want to ask if i hold a canadian CPL+FRTOL and go to india ,submit the paper..will i get a RTR(P)..?? Hw long will it be valid for?? And do i have to give part 1 ever?? Thanks alot in advance for help...Will highly appreciate it... |

Just a general doubt guys..
If you look on the second page of the DGCA issued FRTOL No. 12 it mentions the WPC issued RTR number and date of issue. Now, what if during the validity period of your DGCA issued FRTOL; you renew/change your WPC issued RTR? We'll obviously get a new number from WPC. Do we then inform DGCA to change the number and date of issue in the FRTOL as well? Once again, it's a general query; just want your feedback. Thank you |

canadian RT + CPL gives you RTR(P) for not more than 5 yrs irrespective of the amount, as the canadian booklet issued to you has a validity of 5 yrs. |
guys i need some help.
my Indian rtr is expiring in January 2012. i had got it on the basis of my uk rt. i have cleared part 1 once in 2009. any idea if i can fill a form and a draft of 5k or 10k and get it extended. or i will have to clear part 1 again. please help. urgent. |

I had a small doubt, hope someone can clarify it. I have a UK RT so i need to give only part 1 to get the RTR (C), am in US right now and i have one more option to go to Canada, get my RT and CPL converted and straightaway apply for conversion. Now i want to ask one thing - 1. Even if i get my RTR (C) via UK RT route by clearing Part 1 and then after 5-6 months i need to get RTR (A) because some airlines ask for it, do i only need to give Part 2 or do i need to give Part 1 and Part 2 again... |

To get an RTR ( A ) you have to give both part1 and part 2 in the same attempt
So yes you will have to give part 1 again And no none of the airlines want an RTR ( A ) . All they want is just a valid RT license . The privileges of an RTR A , P , C are the same . The reason they post RTR(A) in the requirements is because their HR department that gives the info on the website is not aware of the different classes of RTR available . Getting an RTR ( A) is beneficial in the long run as you can obtain one with lifetime validity . That way you will never have to bother about dealing with the WPC ever again ( unless your RT is lost and you have to obtain a new one ) |

Last time when jet came in with their recruitment, they had a RTR (A) requirement to apply for the 737NG trainee co pilot slots. There were many posts on pprune about it as well. Sir there is no such thing like that which is troubling you ! I HAVE 30 HOURS OF FLYING IN MARCH 2009. PART 1 CLEARED IN OCTOBER 2008. INDIAN RTR VALID TILL JANUARY 2011. I HOLD A USA CPL AND UK RT. NOW SINCE I HAVE 30 HOURS OF FLYING IN THE PREVIOUS 3 YEARS, CAN I GET MY INDIAN RTR RENEWED ? PLEASE ADVICE. |

I think you mean your rtr is valid till jan 2012? because if you cleared it in oct 2008 your validity would probably start from after that date. if this is the case you can get it renewed it is within three years but you can only apply for that renewal three months before your rt expires. |
Yes bro, my rtr was issued in jan 2009, so valid till jan 2012.
i cleared part 1 that time. ya so i can apply in october right, and from october i will still have 30 hours in previous 3 years. so i cant get it renewed without having to give part 1, right. my uk rt is valid till 2018, so i can get an indian rtr upto 2018, on that basis. would appreciate a reply. thanks a ton. |
Guys i need your help i cleared my RTR(A) part 1 & 2 in march 2007 and it will be expiring in march 2012.The problem here is i completed all my flight training at the end of march 2009,so that means i haven't flown since march '09.what should i do for the renewal,can i submited my documents in jan 2012 and still be good because i have some around 30 hrs in these three months jan,feb and march '09,will i able to renew it if not then whats the further procedure for that.
