My CX Cadet Stage 1b Experience
Hi, I just had my 1b interview/JKI test a couple days ago and just wanted to share the experience a little bit for anyone with the interview coming up.
I have 0 flying hours and applied back in August 09. For the JKI Test, learning the JKI booklet inside out only gives you enough knowledge to answer about 80% of the questions. I would recommend some further reading on weather and CX. Questions asked: Personal Why do you want to be a pilot? What skills do you think you have to become a good pilot? What do your parents/loved ones think about you becoming a pilot? What technical experience do you have to prove you can handle a plane? Why did you choose your degree choice? Did you enjoy it? Why do you have no flying hours? What is your favourite plane? Technical/CX *Show picture of CX plane* What is this plane? How did you come to this conclusion? What are the main differences between the planes in the CX fleet? What planes are in the CX fleet Describe the training aircraft at FTA What does the SO do? What planes do they fly on? Where do the SOs fly to? I understand that this is probably some repeat stuff, but hopefully will help any CX applicants! McJojo |
Thanks for sharing with us your experience..and good luck with your application mate!:ok:

Thanks for posting - I whish id seen it before my interview a couple of weeks ago!
Im sure it'l help several who have got looming interviews, but I feel I should point out that I only got asked 1 of the questions you mentioned "What do your parents/loved ones think about you becoming a pilot?" (Yes - I didn't get asked why I wanted to be a pilot - I was shocked - I had to drop it in at the end when they asked "is there anything else youd like us to know!" I'm not having a go or anything but I think it's important for others to note that every candidate gets a different set of questions based on their ability! Best of luck with your application - It took a week for them to get back to me so Hope its not too much longer for you! N |
thx sooo much for your information!

Sorry this may be obvious, but, what is an SO?? |
haha that's so true!
the job duty is to eat that sandwich. |
SO means Security Officer / Staring Officer
He is there to guard the cockpit from terrorist, WEF after 911 incident LOL!!! His secondary appointment would be to stare at the Capt, the FO and wondering what they are doing with the on the massive instrument panel. :} |
S/O = second officer.cheers:ugh:

Thanks for your post. I was curious, since you didn't get asked the same questions as MCJoJo can you post any questions that you were asked? I'm trying to make a Cathay question bank so that I'm ready during my interview next month. Thanks and best of luck to all of you.

can i anyone share information on stage2, as do i have to pay for expenses like hotel and ticket etc, or os cathay going to pay for stage2.

Bizzle284,
McJoJo's questions are quite typical of Stage 1 interviews, I got similar questions when I did Stage 1 last time. In this stage they are interested in getting to know you, and their questions will be asked according to what you wrote in the online application and your CV. Obviously some standard questions will be asked, such as "Introduce yourself in 5 minutes", "Why you want to be a pilot", "Why did you do this degree/job", so think along those lines. To prepare I would suggest you take up your online application (if you have printed it) and your CV, and think about things they are likely to question you about. Bad grades? Employment details? They will leave the grilling to Stage 2 and 3, so be wary of your answers as they may haunt you later. PA28R, I suggest you ask CX at the interview, or call them if you want to know now. Only they can answer your question... but I would suspect they expect you to shoulder the financial burden. I mean, you did pay for your Stage 1, right? CX only gave Stage 2 plane tickets and accomodation to people who did their Stage 1 back at home. Give me a shout if you want their phone number. |
@ holdmetight
Thanks for all the info. First question: What is a CV?
I will deff keep looking at all the information. Thank god I saved my cathay application. I don't remember what I put in it HaHa. I am so nervous for the interview and can't help it. I want all the help I can get. Also how far after stage 1 is stage 2? I'm flying from America to there and it was a task just getting all my days off from work to go for this first set of interviews. I'm wondering if it will be a week later and then they call and say come back or is there some time in between? |
Bizzle284
CV stands for Curriculum Vitae, which is what someone from North America would refer to as a résumé.
I don't know how far Stage 2 is from Stage 1, it looks as though there isn't a definite time frame. Some people wait longer, some shorter, who knows. Best you asked them during your interview, or by e-mail. |
hey guys!
I got through my intial testing stage and have my 1B next week. Just a heads up.. after my oral presentation the hr lady asked me a few questions about myself and cathays fleet including which engine they used and how much thrust it produces! So prepare for a brief interview during initial stage! oh btw.. wowpeters breakdown of the testing is pretty accurate and it would be a waste of time typing it all up again lol Anyone else have anything to add or anymore advice for 1B? Good luck to all! |
