I don't care anymore since I love my current job at my current company and the future prospects that it holds. Wait, did I say that out loud? All of the above is absolutely true except it's all opposite.

Apparently we are planning on recruiting 100-150 international cadets per year to meed expansion and attrition demand. With our current fleet plan, this should be enough to keep up. Unfortunately, it seems the end is nigh for the DE schemes of yore. Not sure if we will see DEFO recruitment anytime soon, if at all. Good luck guys, and if you come on the cadet scheme, you're bonkers!

How are SO upgrades to FO coming along? The only hope for DEFO is if there is a need after the current SOs have upgraded until the new cadets are ready for an upgrade to FO.

Don't quite understand why CX would completely rely on cadets in the future. It wouldn't be healthy for the company. Of course you get pilots that are 100% bred the CX way, but I see the divercity in previous experience as a big plus.
I also see a disadvange in hiring people when they are too young. They will eventually end up being very expensive pilots for a big part of their career and also have the potential to leave for another carrier closer to home unless you pay them well.
DEFOs hired in their mid 30s to mid 40s will only be at the top of the payscales for a limited amount of years and they are more likely to stick with CX even when the grass becomes greener on the other side. They simply don't have the years left to make the jump.
:p Yes, I really want to get in :O Could they at least just hire the guys in the pool :(

seems to be about 10 upgrades from SO to FO a month at the moment.

Don't think the company sees them as expensive as no housing even if they do stay at the top pay scales longer. A two year SO based in HKG can be on over HK$1,300,000 total income, housing and salary. A cadet SFO after 10 years in CX is nowhere close to that, in fact a year 1 CN who joined through the cadet scheme is on about the same as a 2 year DESO. This is how the company managed to get people to come and live in HKG after gaining 1000s hrs to sit in the back seat for 4 years.

I think lots of cadets will want out of HKG either onto a base with CX or if none available to another carrier as most of them are young enough to jump ship and still have a full career back home. I can see DEFO hiring again in about 5 years but will be into HKG as all cadets will want to go closer to home so no base slots to hire guys onto.

May start hiring onto bases for DEFO in the next year or two but this will be short lived as once the int cadets are JFOs they will all want out of HKG.

If they do start hiring DEFO into HKG I expect it would be on much lower terms compared to expats now, hope not and that the AOA can maintain if not improve conditions for everyone, cadet or expat.

Year 3 S/O on HKD1.1m including (full) housing allowance per year right now. For you new joiners(at year 3), expect that to be less than half on the improved no housing deal.

Do your homework. By all means, come to CX, but do your homework!

Wasn't there some interviewing for DEFO in Vancouver like 6 months back?

Hi

Hi dear,
I have question for you; and was wondering if CX has any more B777 bases and any hiring for those bases and position now these days?
Thank you very much for your help
Regards
Rez
