Dragonair (KA) recruitment?
Any idea if Dragonair intend to recruit in the forceable future? Got my application in about 2yrs ago, just in time for the GFC!
|
Have a look on their website now and you'll see. :}
|
Thanks, it says "no vacancy" under F/O recruitment, my question was when, or if, that was expected to change.
|
wtf? anyone??
|
Thats what I was looking for! Bugger, should have accepted the interview 5 yrs ago!
|
Moe, try cx. That way you will be senior to all the KA guys when they get put at the bottom of the cx list. KA no longer has any staff other than pilots and FAs, they no longer have a flight training centre, they are losing beijing slots, shanghai slots, cx doing some KA taipei's, lost 2 330s and counting, 1 or 2 320s, every one of the freighters have gone, and we have dropped half a dozen routes. There are some observers looking at this mess and think we must be gearing up for something really big! Get your application in now!!! :}

save long term costs.
the salary for pilots who came through the cadet program are lower than direct entry pilots. |
Lo-Co Terminal
Big investment in KA's very own Lo-Co terminal!
|
Raven,
The salary scale is exactly the same as an expat officer. What the locals miss out on are the various expat benefits such as housing, child education etc The Cav:ok: |
Just send in the applications. Word has it that they are recruiting cadet since early this month. They just haven't put it on their website yet.
|
I also submitted my application last week.I wonder anyone receive a call for interview?
|
Submitted mine. Playing the waiting game now.
|
If you have been shortlisted, the wait shouldn't be too long. I applied in mid-December and about 3 weeks later, I was given a date for their Initial Test, which I completed a few days ago.
The projected selection schedule I was given looks like this: Initial Tests: January - February Aptitude Test: February - March 1st Interview: March - April This is unless you are holding a CPL/fATPL/MECIR and the like... I have friends who hold these licenses and have applied, but have not heard back yet. Not sure why. |
dude,
i did my initial test on 27 Jan, just wanna to know if anyone here have received the notice for next test. Good Luck.. |
ICAO Test
Hi holdmetight,
I wanna if KA require ICAO during the interview process? |
cadetpilotwannabe
My understanding is that KA cadets only sit the ICAO English Test after graduating from ab initio training at FTA.
|
Hi holdmetight,
Thank you for your response. I am going to take my initial test the week after next. Can you tell me what is it look like? What is the key to success in this stage? Is there anything I can prepare for? Btw, did you apply for CX as well? I submitted my application to CX and now I am waiting for the response! Wish you all the best! |
KA vs. CX
I am also wondering what is the different between CX CPP and KA CPP. I know they are quite similar. What will the career look like?

KA Initial Test
The KA Initial Test lasts about 2 hours, and is divided into the following components:
1. English Grammar Test (50 minutes) 2. English Listening Test Part A 3. English Listening Test Part B 4. Numeracy Test (30 minutes) English Grammar Test: This is basically a paper from the Oxford Placement Test. There is more than enough time to complete the paper and double-check your answers. Questions look like this: I "would like/have liked/should like" to order a coffee. You are required to tick the correct option. Easy as. English Listening Part A: This is another section from the Oxford Placement Test. They will play a tape from a radio placed in front of the room, so you will need to concentrate. The speakers have heavy British accents so be warned. There are 100 questions and they all look like this: I would like to order "a nice cold/an ice cold" drink. Again, tick the correct option. English Listening Part B: This is an in-house listening test created by Dragonair. You will first be given about 10 seconds to read about 4-6 questions and memorize them. Then you will be asked to cover up the questions and listen to a recording lasting about 30 seconds. After listening to the recording, you will then open up the questions and answer them. You do this 3 times. Relax but concentrate on listening, for the same reasons as listed above. Numeracy Test: Basically this is like any math test you can expect for a graduate management trainee job. There are 20 questions, which require very basic mathematical skills, but you will be required to do a lot of calculations to get an answer. You are not allowed to use a calculator. The key is to keep calm and try your best to maintain accuracy. I do not think the paper is finish-able, so just try your best and do whatever you can. Questions look like these: Numeric I was told to expect one week in which to receive notification for the Aptitude Test, if successful. |
CXCPP vs KACPP
To my understanding, the actual ab initio training received by KA and CX cadets in Adelaide is the same, however differences lie in the following items:
1. ICAO English CX requires candidates to complete the ICAO english test prior to joining cadet training, while KA cadets undergo the english test following completion of training in ADL and their return to HKG. 2. Flight Grading CX Flight Grading is divided into two categories, depending on the level of experience of a candidate. They are: a. Basic Grading - 7 flights in Grob115A, focusing on BAC. For applicants with <20 hours TT. b. Advanced Grading - 3 flights in Grob115A, focusing on assessing candidates' existing flying skills. 3 sorties in sim, with basic Instrument flying. KA Flight Grading is divided into two categories, also depending on the level of experience of a candidate. They are: a. Basic Grading - 7 flights in Grob115A, focusing on BAC. For applicants with <20 hours TT. b. Advanced Grading - 7 flights in Grob115A, also focusing on BAC. Plus 3 flights in CAP10 aerobatic aircraft. 3. Career Prospects in HKG Following returning to HKG, CX cadets undergo ground school for their respective fleets, and are trained just like any other new F/O, except they are not given base training and following check-to-line, they become official S/Os and are relief cruise pilots. As for KA cadets, they undergo ground school for their assigned Airbus aircraft, but are also given base training. Following check-to-line, they operate under the rank of S/O but actually execute the duties of an F/O. The difference is that they are not allowed to control the aircraft below a certain limitation in wx condition, something that will change as they are promoted to JF/O and above. All this is what I have learned from various sources. As with everything else on this forum, read it and take it with a pinch of salt. Having said that though, please feel free to correct any errors that I might have made. Good luck to everyone applying! |
Just wonder how KA contact short-listed applicants?
via email or phone? Thx:ok: |
You get your Initial Test invitation via e-mail. If successful in subsequent assessments you will be contacted by phone. I have heard that unsuccessful candidates are simply ignored and not given any form of rejection.
|
holdmetight, your post is pretty accurate - just wanted to add a few things.
There is no more "intermediate" flight grading for CX Also, the training received as a cadet in Adelaide is exactly the same, whether you are from CX or KA Outward Bound is a thing of the past, and will not be a part of the program anymore. And yes, as you mentioned, KA cadets graduate to become "flying" Second Officers whereas CX cadets graduate just to become a relief pilot (second officer) |
Thx for your reply.
I have submitted my application in late Dec but still haven't heard anything from KA yet. Hope they will contact me soon.:ok: |
Thanks flapsupdown for your information, I have corrected my post accordingly.
myhitomi - do you have flying experience? |
holdmetight, I have 15 hour flight training experience in Australia.
Why? |
myhitomi
|
To cadetpilotwannabe:
Yes, I'm hk resident and I have applied both CPP |
myhitomi
The reason I asked you about your flying background is because KA are not responding to applicants with CPL and above, for some unknown reason. Is this your first application then?
|
this time is my 2nd attempt
|
I applied both KA and CX as well. Good to know you here~ you can add my msn~ PM u already
|

|
Just wonder if you guys have received any respond from KA after your initial test on late Jan.
I’m like an ant inside a hot pot!! |
