Anyone going to the December initial assessments in HK??

dolpinsky 12th Nov 2014 11:20

can someone confirm the latest selection process for CPL? As far as I know, the whole thing consists of :
initial test
aptitude test
initial interview
icao english
second interview+personality test+group discussion+flight planning+body check
flight grading

Am I right? Or have they made any changes? Because I saw from one website that KA has replaced flight grading with "flight simulation grading", and they also put a "logic test" into the selection.

777tinpis 12th Nov 2014 16:07

Sorry, i meant anyone going to HK for initial interview for DEFO in Dec?

Kermit750 19th Nov 2014 05:58

Hi 777tinpins,

I'm up on December 5th. And you, I guess?

Mediums 21st Nov 2014 02:08

Where should I start? Let's just say with an apology to all the senior pilots/posters that had been previously warning us all about the cadet scheme or path, or this "career oppurtunity".

I started chasing this dream a couple years back after learning about the cadet scheme, complete with my Top Gun Raybans on. Unfortunately, the Raybans have come off and I can see the light again.

Whatever I say from here on is my personal opinion and I wish it helps some hopeful out there of actually flying or getting a real flying job.

First of all, the whole cadet program is a farce aimed at only one thing to reduce cost and you are but a number to them. Passion for aviation? Haha...Laughable at best, when you have your first interview there won't be a single pilot in the room rather you will be interviewed by ex Flight attendants for a flying job. Why do you think the senior pilots are constantly complaining about the quality of the newly graduated cadets it is declining and this is one of the reasons.

Think of it this way, you will spend 14 months as a cadet, then 3-4 years as a Second Officer. That is 5 years of your life right there which you could progress or improve yourself in so many other ways. Let's not beat around the bush here most of you joining are only here for the money, which to be honest is pathetic at this moment but I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.

To sum it all up, save up enough money for a year or two. Get a CPL first, I wish I had done this sooner and flown all over the world at my own expense in a leisurely manner. There are so many other ways you can go from there, should you still wish to pursue this "dream" or "passion". They want your passion in exchange for money in their bank accounts. It is a disgrace and shame really... How they offer this "oppurtunity" but in reality it is just a money scheme. Do some research and write down all the pros and cons on paper and make a better decision. All that glitters is not gold. I hope this post helps some hopeful out there make a better decision out there sooner than I did.

Hi Mediums,

As a cadet-wanna-be, I disagree with most of your personal opinion.

1) The whole cadet programme is nothing more than a cost-saving policy.
Well, it may be true that over the long run, the airline can save more money by bleeding their own pilots than recruiting from outside, let's not forget the airline paid for the training programme while you have only a few flying hours and claim that you can pass all the ground school exams and get the licence. In an economics sense, airlines bear the risk. A cadet trades off time for a career opportunity that they might not be able to have. Not many people are fortunate or wealthy enough to fund their CPL licence. The programme is mutually beneficial to the airline, and to those who are pursuing an aviation career. I do not see the reason why you devil-ise the cadet programme.

2) Interview by ex-Flight Attendant
I am guessing your are talking about the initial ab. To my understanding, they are crew recruitment specialists. They may not understand much of the technical concepts or flight configurations, but if during that approx. 45 mins chat, you pretty much show enough of your personality. Failing to tell a 'normal person' about how much you love flying makes doubt about how serious you think about it.

3) Most of you are joining here for money
You have the right to put forward your personal view, but please do not make any generalisation with no grounds.

Training Duration for MPL?

Hi all,

I have searching on Internet about the KA MPL training duration but unfortunately I couldn't find any information:bored:

I read from their website, claiming the duration is 62 weeks, but it is still the MPL held by CAE Oxford:suspect:

Does anyone know the training duration for MPL held by FTA? Thanks!

Hey Everyone

I just recently applied for the KA Cadet Entry Program. No idea what to expect and I am looking at all the potential angles to see what they will throw at me. Any suggestions as to what I should study for? Or what the stages would be like? Anything helps! Little bit about myself; I am a chinese born Canadian. I do have HKID and I currently have about 100 hours in a cessna and my Canadian Private Pilots License. Thank you!

:ok::ok::ok:Happy Flying Everyone!!!!!

IT on the 30th Mar

Hi guys, just a few hours ago I received an email that I've been invited to the initial test on the 30th of March. Just wondering would sites such as latestpilotjobs which help people tremendously in CX application also help with KA applications, such as mainly with the maths questions on the first day? Also with reference to latestpilotjobs, would it also assist greatly on the aptitude test?

Furthermore, my first language is English, so what sort of hurdles would I face in terms of the English test?

Who else has their test on the same day? Want to get in contact with me? feel free to PM me.

pilotyan 27th Feb 2015 01:27

Hi, may I know when did you submit your application? I am a local and I submitted that in early Feb but still waiting..:hmm:

Marco0208 27th Feb 2015 02:48

Thx Bro, Much Appreciated for the help

ibeargifts 27th Feb 2015 03:19

I actually submitted quite a while ago. About October 2014. So yes... they've taken their time to respond, but I guess its all about their demand at this point of time.

eluk 16th Mar 2015 10:14

Any news for the recruitment this year? Have they sent out invitation for the interview? Thanks!
