Cathay Cadet interview

First post on here. I was just curious if anyone knows if there is a difference between the Cadet Pilot Program interview and all of the other interviews I have read about online. My email talked about the Cadet pilot programme which I had applied to in August but I do have 1500hrs+ and thought someone on here might know. Anything anyone could tell me would be appreciated.

V1V2rotate 8th Oct 2009 06:33

Got my date in YVR too.

Are we expected to give a "5 min presentation" as I've read about in previous posts? The email mentioned nothing in this regard. Any help would be appreciated. Also, what kind of flying experience do you guys have?

mchou83 8th Oct 2009 15:04

In the e-mail they sent me, it didn't mention about the 5 min presentation. I guess it's different for every region. becauselast year in HK, the stage 1 had 5min presentation tho
Do you guys need to do the technical questions in the interview?

Lima Bravo 8th Oct 2009 19:33

Anyone flying from Montreal?

Wings1123 10th Oct 2009 04:07

no presentation

yeah i don't see any 5 min presentation on the email....i am worried about the tehcnical things though. Are we supposed to be pros with the 777 equipments? I keep reading about people having to define a dutch roll, are there any other twists like that on the actual test? I hear there was a round earlier this year, anyone could shed some light as to what they went through before? Are expectations hugely different if you have 50hrs of flight as opposed to 150hrs? man i have a lot of questions!

SAFE88 11th Oct 2009 10:30

Anyone else from Vancouver who's got the offer for the 27th?

FLY202 11th Oct 2009 14:17

They doing first round interviews in Johannesburg, South Africa on 27 October!
Anyone got any tips for the technical paper?
Doesnt look like first round includes a presentation but I've been told I will receive more info next week so guess then we'll know!!
Good luck to all!

1MC 12th Oct 2009 19:16

wowpeter 14th Oct 2009 04:25

Good luck for those who have been invited for your interview :ok:

Monkey07 15th Oct 2009 02:42

Hi guys,
I am from yvr. I applied several days ago. The following day I received an email from cathay recruiter saying they will consider my application along with other eligible applicants in the next selection in the same geographical location. Has anyone received the same/similar email when you applied and eventually got the invitation for interview?? Thanks...

V1V2rotate 15th Oct 2009 16:20

Does anyone have a clue of what kinds of questions that will be asked on:
-45min tech multiple choice test
-reasoning test
-interview ( personal / tech questions)

WreedeWol 16th Oct 2009 10:12

Info

Any information on the 45min technical? I've received my info book, but seems pretty basic. Surely someone must have sat this test with some information?

Thanks!!

wowpeter 16th Oct 2009 23:38

WreedeWol... V1V2...

First of all, I don't want to sound too mean, but a quick search in pprune will bring you tons of info... But just to be nice, here is some quick info...

Mulitple Choice Job Knowledge Test... it cover all the topics that is in the ebooklet that is send to you by CX via email... this book is indeed very basic, in fact it is so basic that it does not actually explain everything in details and a lot of information is left out on purpose... especially those relating to different instruments, it never actually explain to you how it works... However, that is exactly the point that CX is making / trying to make... you got to do some work on your own, some internet search on those specific topics will provide you will tons of information that will allow you to pass the test... it is also a way for CX to make sure that you are the type of person who will go out of the way and get as much knowledge as you need to get up to standard... Because the reality is that, this is how CX operates, no one is going to spoon feed you info at CX...

As for the reasoning test... check out this qantas test...

http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/...ent/QTests.pdf

If you look at the Diagramatric and the Spatial Reasoning section, they are pretty similar to what you will see in the CX test... however the CX one is slightly more complex than the Qantas one... but it is similar types of test / questions...

Finally, as for the interview... again a quick search will give you tons of info... however, interview questions are tailor to each applicants background... and they can ask you anything, absolutely anything aviation related and anything about your personal / personality (within the limits of the law of course)...

Good luck!

mchou83 17th Oct 2009 03:35

Thanks Peter,
It really help

WreedeWol 19th Oct 2009 12:10

vaibhav 31st Oct 2009 11:56

hey guys need help !!!!!

i am from melbourne and i applied for the cadetship online today .. got a mail from them saying will advise when next the interview takes place in your geographic location . i dont know anything about the interviews can anyone shed please shed some light on them .. can anyone tell me wat the information booklet is ???? i am a Student pilot with 10 hrs of exprience just got my first solo .. am hoping that i will get through to the CX cadetship program and will go to adelaide australia for the training ..

do they provide accomodation , food and living expenses ???

i dont know anything ... thanks guys

foooofighter 31st Oct 2009 13:01

vaibhav.

I hate to be rude....but im just gonna state what many might be thinking.

Clearly you haven't really thought this through when you applied.

a. A quick search through previous threads by browsing or using the search function would have answered all of your questions.

b. The fragrant harbour wannabe's forum is dominated by kids wanting to enter the CX cadetship program...so you're definitely not alone on that one.

If you don't know anything...find out for yourself.

But..just to balance this reply.
Accomodation, food is paid for during training.

My advice for you? Is to seriously do your research before applying for such a program.

Finally with regard to the information booklet, why is everyone so desperate to get the book early? If you haven't actually gotten to the stage where you actually need it, its kind of pointless.

Furthermore, yes preparation is key...., but i think CX's intentions are for a level playing field, such that everyone gets the book when they require it. The content in the book is simple, but obtaining it early seems a bit unfair to others. Im sure some may disagree with what i just said.....but i hope you understand.

Fooey

vaibhav 31st Oct 2009 13:33

thanks fooey

thanks fooey ... i appericiate your quick reply ..

yes i have been reading up for the past three hours and have practically read all the threads on this forum .. lot to read before i speak .. thanks

PCLCREW 31st Oct 2009 15:31

I applied a year ago for a SO position and I have yet to hear anything from Cathay? I have about 6000tt and about 4500 Turbine..
Question : does Cathay look at people as over qualified for the SO position?
I dont really care what I get SO or DEFO I really just wanted to get in, and I thought applying as an SO would have been quicker???
Someone please enlighten/educate me on this...
Cheers

V1V2rotate 31st Oct 2009 17:31

PCL: Not surprising you haven't heard from them! I know f/o's from the big show with jet time getting shut down. Any of that time, MULTI turbine?

So in keeping with this TOPIC ON TRACK, has anyone from the YVR interviews heard back from CX?

How did everyone find the reasoning test? (I'm glad I did so many practise exams)

How did the interview go?

Eagle747 31st Oct 2009 17:39

Hiya V1V2rotate

Sent you a PM. Check your inbox mate.

CX YVR Interview Feedback

I had my initial interview on Thursday. We were 3.
I found the last 10 reasoning questions very challenging. The technical exam was not too bad. I think my interview went okay with the exception of some theory questions.

They should get back to us in 2 weeks. I really hope to make it to round 2.

1MC 31st Oct 2009 21:30

Had the interview on Wednesday...

The tech question exam was pretty straight forward, study the book and you should be fine. There are a few questions at the end that are related to CX fleet, just know what they operate.

If you have any flying experience/licenses (PPL/CPL), just make sure your knowlege is upto that level because in the interview the tech questions will be based around the knowlege you should have for the license.

As for the reasoning test, its either your thing or not... but definately do some practice ones.

Darian 1st Nov 2009 02:18

Can someone pls tell me where I can get those reasoning test?? I found some online but didnt seem to be sufficient
