I talked to a guy who interviewed in Apr/May 2008 (DEFO) and got a classdate in Aug 2008 for NA basing.

I had my 2nd interview June 2008 (DEFO) and am still waiting for a class date.

Cathay took in quite a bit of the guys from Oasis late May early June 08.

Puppet Master 13th Oct 2009 10:36

Like I said before I stand to be corrected. I am only going by the information that was told to me from HR and I don't see the advantage for them not to tell me what the actual policy is. But then again, at the end of the day, they are management!! So who knows.

For all of those swimming... Don't drown! For me I think my treading water days are coming to an end 'cause I don't think I can wait much longer. :(

GTC58

Thank for all your info. Can you please tell us how many days OFF you guys get each month, and do you guys fly over 84 hours often. Thanks again.

GTC58 14th Oct 2009 23:23

Depends what fleet you are on, where you are based and if Relief Qualified. In general for a North American base 15 - 18 days off. Working more than 84 hours doesn't happen very often at the moment for NA FO's. However when we were expanding rapidly in 07/08 it was happening more frequently.

flynhigh 15th Oct 2009 00:02

Thanks again for taking time and answering our question. Just one more question please. I was told aside from your base salary they also pay what called Hourly Duty Pay (HDP) if so can you tell us what's the rate for N.America. Thanks agin for all your help.

Will this new Air China cargo deal effect new hires. I heard CX is moving all their Cargo operation to Air China so who will one be working for CX or Air China.....

quadspeed 24th Oct 2009 17:54

Are you on crack or just incapable of reading normal posts?

There won't be any DESO hiring in 2010. As for DEFOs, Cathay is always full of surprises. It all depends on the SO Bypass Case making its rounds in the Hong Kong Courts. So keep your eyes on that.

Cathay Pacific Airways. What a perfect converter of (employee) trust to (shareholder) cash.

Guys this was posted on Flightinfo.com about CX hiring, its not looking good guys...:{

Hiring may not start until 2011 or 2012, if then. CX may not have DEFO positions anymore so you would start at SO in Hong Kong for 36 months.:(

cheez 29th Oct 2009 15:54

Huh?

Who's the source? Seems pretty forward looking considering that CX hasn't yet released any aspect of their trg plan for next yr.....

I think I'll believe that one when I see it.

flynhigh 29th Oct 2009 16:03

It was posted on The Hangar I hope its not true also, I was just passing along what I saw.

NoseGear 30th Oct 2009 00:30

Chez (love your location!:ok:) the training plan is out, and its not positive...at this stage, 10 JFO upgrades for 2010...although I would put good money that will change for the better. As Quadspeed said, there is a courtcase going on at the moment regarding SO bypass pay, which is also linked to upgrades. That should be settled in the first quarter of next year, and if the SOs win it, which they did at the Labour Tribunal, and I suspect will again at the Court of First Instance, then there will be no DEFO hiring for a few years until ALL suitable SOs are upgraded....which is supposed to happen contractually, however its been "overlooked" by the company:suspect::=
flyinhigh....36months? You'd be lucky, its stretching out to over 4 years now....:{:ugh::mad:

"Chez (love your location!http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ies/thumbs.gif) the training plan is out, and its not positive...at this stage"

So how many new hires SO and FO does the new training plan have on it?? My guess is zero?? I hope I am wrong

NoseGear 30th Oct 2009 07:43

With around 300 SOs in the company, Im sure you can do the rather unpleasant maths.....:(

Nosey....

I bet you wish the fish in the title of your last post was red and looked a little more like a herring....:ok:

Where are you getting that info from? All contacts I have say that nothing has been released yet....care to clarify your comments?

airplaneridesrfun 30th Oct 2009 18:54

Cheez,

If you put all of the information you get from this rumor board together, the truth will rear its ugly head.

1 - retirement age is now 65... it was 55!
2 - Lots of SO's will be upgrading soon once the court case is finished, or a mutual deal is made. There are plenty of Cadet SO's in process, with seniority numbers to fill in the void.
3 - Every pilot was asked to take an average of over 3 weeks of unpaid leave this year
4 - new flight time limitations may allow CX to roster 3 man crews to Europe - that is a 25% reduction in pilots demanded by CX.
5 - if you are in the US, there are no vacancies available at all in any base.

You make the call, do you think CX will hire anytime soon? What do you think upgrade time will be for you if you started tomorrow? At least 18 years! And if you start in 3 years, upgrade time is now 21 years!

NoseGear 31st Oct 2009 02:26

Cheez, Im not out to pull anyone's chain, the information is what it is....my source is myself, and the guys I fly with, overnight with, drink with etc etc..some of them are even management, and thats as far as I can go.:=

Im trying to shed some light on things for you guys who may be waiting in the wings, you may not like it, and you can choose to disbelieve it, however the fact remains that there will unlikely to be any more DEFOs hired for a few years.

cheez 31st Oct 2009 05:17

OOOkay

Right guys....thanks for the gouge. With respect, I'll wait for the official word from the company but I see where you're coming from. Heres to hoping the recovery continues and propogates some growth.

airplaneridesrfun 31st Oct 2009 06:51

One last thought Cheez. If you are offered a class date in 4 months, would you take it? After reading these message boards you know that if you took that class, you would be taking the upgrade from an SO who has put more than his required time in, and probably was as qualified or more than you when he/she started CX. Are you willing to do that to someone, and then sit in a cockpit and tell the SO that you did not know that you were taking his upgrade and base?

quadspeed 31st Oct 2009 07:07

Are you willing to do that to someone?
That's not Chez's problem, nor should it be. It's the company's problem, and should be dealt with through the HKAOA. Chez should take whatever job offers comes along; unless IALPA has blacklisted them. Internal politics should be solved internally, and we certainly don't expect future colleagues to fight our fights for us.

We're creating a Winning Team, remember?

airplaneridesrfun 31st Oct 2009 08:39

I agree with you, however, Cheez needs to be fully informed about what kind of organization he is about to get involved in before he joins. It sounds really messed up from the outside looking in; unfortunately, everything you hear is true. On a positive note, the check always clears the bank on time.
