CX CPP Stage 1 in April

Hey guys, I just got an invitation from CX for the Stage 1 in April. Does anyone else get invitated? Really want to meet some of you guys at the CP City, but it's gonna be a tough day! Good Luck.

ypk 26th Feb 2005 18:02

can i ask you when did you send out ur application?
I sent mine out end of Jan, still no reply~

katana-dv20 26th Feb 2005 18:57

I sent out my app after X'mas.

rodney27 28th Feb 2005 16:09

katana, check your PM

Bravo Echo November 28th Feb 2005 16:26

Good luck! Where are you from?

Hotellima 9th Mar 2005 13:25

I sent my application at the end of JAN 2005. And I just recieved an email for first stage interview. Good luck to all candidates who still waiting for reply.

Koyo 9th Mar 2005 19:29

Hotel, did you FedEx the application from Vancouver or staying in HK with relatives right now? I wonder which is more efficient, go back to HK, sit at home and wait for the invite or stay in Canada and scramble to get a ticket out.

PS: I haven't even finish post secondary school so I'm still 1 year away from applying.

katana-dv20 9th Mar 2005 20:59

hey koyo, I think you should Fedex the app back to HK and wait in Canada. They usually contact you in advance for any interviews, so you can make travel arrangment. Of course no hurt to stay in HK and wait, but try to keep your normal life going. We don't really know when they will launch the next CPP. Keep it up! No worry mate!

tomcatrl 9th Mar 2005 21:42

hi katana-dv20,
when is your 1st initerview in April,
I mailed my application at mid Jan in canada, and I just got a e-mail for 1st interview.
I am getting mine schedule at at late april when I finish school.
and where are you from now?
Did you get "that" book to prepare?

hi ypk
Where are you from?
you should get your call soon depends on how long does it take to mail to HK, it's not hurt to give them a call to confirm they got your package.
I mailed mine in mid Jan, the package got there by the end of the month, and I finally got call a few days ago, so you should get your e-mail very soon.

hey Koyo,
did you send your application in already? if not, I guess Fedex or some kind of express will be your only choise, b/c after they got your package, it take approx 1 month for them to process b4 ask your for 1st in. (normal mail to oversea take 10-14 days)

If you happen to go to HK, great, let them you when will be there so they could plan ahead. If not, just be prepare to go at any time.

By the way, I heard the up coming CPP will be around Aug, no confirm on date yet.

taz 9th Mar 2005 21:53

I just got an email from CX, they want me to pick a date to go in for the stage 1 interview. i submitted my application 3 weeks ago, and man, that was a quick turn around. Good luck to you all :ok:

Hotellima 10th Mar 2005 06:00

Koyo, i didn't fedex my application. I sent it by Hong Kong post regular service while I was having my semester break in Hong Kong. By the way I was told all applications usually take around a month to process.

good luck to all!

ypk 10th Mar 2005 06:25

Im from Vancouver too.
Seems like they're sending out emails to everyone who applied recently. I got one asking me which day to choose to go for stage one (Apr 7 or 8).
Anyone confirmed for these dates ??

Hotellima 10th Mar 2005 09:18

ypk, same here. I made a phone call this morning to confirm attendence on April 7 or April 8 stage 1. Still waiting for reply on which day that they will put me in.

tomcatrl 10th Mar 2005 11:30

Hotellima , ypk
Too bad I have school until end of April,
so I asked them to put me in the next set of schedule in May.

I wish I can go with you guys

topgun200204 11th Mar 2005 02:49

hi,

i'm from vancouver too...thinking of getting a PPL for better preparation...i don't think i'll apply after some time...

would like to hear some of your experience all you vancouverites...do you guys all have flying experience? if so...where would be some good flying schools in vancouver?

thank you very much!

Hotellima 11th Mar 2005 11:22

topgun200204, I have gained around 33.3 hrs of dual flight training, 9 hrs solo. Planning to take the flight test on March or April this year. There are couple good flight schools in lower mainland area. You can personally visit those schools at boundary bay airport or pitt meadows airport. Check out the aircrafts, instructors, facilities.....etc. Good Luck!!

topgun200204 11th Mar 2005 17:48

thank you hotellima for your reply...so i guess you're planning to go back this summer right? good luck to you

and i'm just wondering...other than flying experience...do all of you have a degree of some sort? which is more important between a degree and some flying experience?

thank you

tomcatrl 11th Mar 2005 18:15

topgun200204

I am from Toronto, and I don't have a degree,

I apply with my highschool diploma and should be getting a College diploma by the end of April to update my file.

It really doesn't matter, there was a chinese guy in austrilia, grat from highschool,
turn down the university offer and apply, and he got in,
he was only 19 at that time and now he is a SO.

katana-dv20 11th Mar 2005 23:06

Hi Tomcat and HL, the education is somehow important to assist you to complete the CPP. However, university degree is not a must. I know a guy grad from U of T engineering, but he couldn't pass the stage 3 interview. So, I think the CPP screening is most likely to test your flying potential, learning ability and personality. If you are good at those, no worry. Good Luck.

Hotellima 12th Mar 2005 00:09

topgun200204, same as tomcat I don't have a degree either. I apply with high school result. I was told there are 2 students in my flight school who didn't finish their degree yet, still got into CX CPP. On the other hand, it is hard to say better chance if you have flying hrs or PPL, there are too many stories in the forum saying that people still screw up in CPP interview even they have some hrs or PPL. I bleieve katana-dv20 is correct, if you are good at flying potential, learning ability and personality, the better chance you have. Good luck!

topgun200204 12th Mar 2005 17:09

hi hotellima,

thanks for the reply...

so are you implying that in fact a lot of the people who apply for CPP now actually tend to have flying experience of some sort or even have a PPL? i wonder what the % would be for people applying without any flying experience and still get in the program?

tomcatrl 12th Mar 2005 20:51

Hi topgun200204

katana-dv20 and Hotellima are right,
for sure education met the min requirement would help,
but a degree is not require.
Rather PPL is important, it's up to you, it will give you a chance to show CX that you are interest in aviation.
You may find that useful by learning some general aviation knowledge by someone quilify.
(Better then just read the book, at least you got someone explain it to you)

The knowledge you learn will be useful,
But the licence itself would not put you a better position over the other who doesn't have one.

ypk 14th Mar 2005 02:03

I just got email from CX saying that the slots for 1st stage on Apr 7 and 8 have already been filled up~!
I guess I replied them too late....
anyone know when the next stage 1 date will be??

tomcatrl 14th Mar 2005 02:16

YPK, they haven't set up a date for next set of interview,
all I was told is it will be in May or June,
contact them for further detail later.

Hotellima 14th Mar 2005 05:28

Hi Topgun, I didn't mean most of the candidates for CPP have some sort of flying frs or PPL as i'm not the insider of CX. But base on the people surrounding in my circle, I know 2 guys got in with some flying hrs. I really have no clue on how many % of candidates get in without flying experiences.

I believe no matter how many hrs or how many "A"s in your transcript, if you can't perform well or outstanding in the interview, the harder you can make it. Good luck.

edwardlcy 14th Mar 2005 07:56

hey... i got the stage 1 interview in march.. but i couldnt go coz i was having school outside HK, and i was asked to call them at the end of march.. i just read these posts telling that there are interviews on 7th/8th of april.. i did call them today... however.. they told me there is no schedule of interviews arranged.. how come?????

Hotellima 14th Mar 2005 09:01

edwardlcy, according to what YPK mentioned, stage one on april 7th/8th is full. You probably need to wait til MAY or JUNE.

ypk 14th Mar 2005 16:27

Yep... in fact I just called them yesterday and spoke with Ada.... the Apr 7 and 8 1st stage dates are specifically for overseas applicants. She said the schedule for the next round of overseas interviews are not out yet... probably will be in May/June?
So I think they have different schedules for HK local vs. overseas applicants.
I presume if you are from HK.... the dates will be more frequent?
Anyone know more about this?

tomcatrl 14th Mar 2005 17:28

ypk, I spoke with Ada about that too, actually, schedule for overseas applicants will be more frequent b/c they don't want to make overseas applicant to stay too long or come back again. So they will schedule it faster.

topgun200204 14th Mar 2005 17:59

thank you hotellima for your reply

i guess your post has already given me some good info...people tend to debate between getting flying experience and getting a degree...

i think the one good answer would be to get both...but this is not a perfect world as we all know

anyway...thank you very much

edwardlcy 15th Mar 2005 10:53

i spoke with Miss Choy, but she said the schedule of April was not arranged yet.. are they treating me as local?? i wrote my HK home address in my application form, and i am studying outside HK..
oh! then i hafta fly back to HK for every interviews???
btw, what is the time separation of every interviews??

taz 15th Mar 2005 16:38

i think for locals, stage 1 - stage 3 could take up to couple months. at least that's why i've heard from Ada. That's why overseas applicants have "special" dates for these 3 interviews. Maybe you should update your info and see if you can get into the next batch of overseas.

ypk 12th Apr 2005 17:24

Hi guys,
Anyone heard anything about the next Initial Test dates for overseas applicants?
I was told the next batch after Apr7/8 will be sometime in May, but still no word from them.
Anyone got any news?
