Weird thing.........

Hi all, I am new to here. I have applied for the CX Cadet Pilot program and seems that I am still on the way for my interviews. Reason why I said I am on the way because, a weird things happened to me..... Well, this is actually my second time. I failed my 1st time 3 years ago and thought I failed because I was too green at that time. Luckily, I got my application form filled in and sent to them in May, and I got a reply from them in June, and here comes the weird part. Form my last time and what I know by reading some forums, I should have received my invitation letter for my interview after they have received my application form, right? This time, I have received a medical examination (for eyes) request from the corporate medical officer, to have my eye checked by some specialist (I am wearing glasses). well, they said that I have to paid for it at this stage. However, When i was chatting with the specialist while i was having my eye test, she expected me to have some stages gone thru already with CX....
So, am I the lucky one or just that they wanna make sure that I meet their standard of vision?

P.S. The Specialist told me that CX requires only that your eye sight is normal with or without corrective lens. Laser Eye operation like LASIK is not reccomended, and they will only have your eye sight in count only at least ONE YEAR after the LASIK operation (The whole Medical consulting period in order to have all things settled for LASIK should be one year).

Don't want to dash any hopes here but you should be aware that eyesight takes account for a whole lot of initial failures of people wanting to enter professional aviation.

When I first set out on the long trail I had to do an, 'Eye Muscle Balance Test', this was long before I got my first interview or test, apparently it was the first major stumbling block for many.
If one didn't pass that, then, within the Forces, there was no way ahead as a pilot.

So, don't be surprised if CX aren't taking a similar approach and making sure your eyesight is up to standard before going any further with your time and their money.

I am just being the Devil's Advocate here so I do hope that I am wrong and I wish you every success for the future.

AhDee,

As the eyesight requirement has changed, it would only be logical to check them out on the initial stage, thereby not wasting any precious resources with interviewing then finding out you are not worthy.

As you said you are green with things, good luck with it all. With the change in requirements, it will now be TOUGHER to get in, due to more qualified ppl being able to pass their medicals.

Cheers

What kind of eye tests will be carried out in this extra eye examination? Is this compulsory for every one, or only compulsory for those shortsighted guys? Thanks a lot.

cessna172r :

Not sure, because I have longsighted and "Astimagtism", I believe that is the main reason why CX asked me to have a detail eye test. However, I did the eye test with CX during the last interview that I have failed 3 years ago.

BlueEagle:

Understood. Luckily, the Specialist said that my eye sight is good enough to Pass their requirement with my glasses on.

Smallwing:

Thanks for your reminder. I will try my best to prepare myself for it.

I have just sent my eye test report to CX... wish everything goes smoothly....

hello.

i believe i have something to tell too
on june 17th, i had my first interview.
on june 28th, i received a letter asked me to do the eye examination.
around july 3rd, i received a call from cathay asking me to hurry up the eye examination. of course, i finished it and told them that it's on the way.

just yesterday, july 13th, i talked to one of the candidate from my first interview. he said he even got his second interview all done during the first week of july. and i'm just waiting for the 2nd interview letter, asking me to go have an interview.

as far as i know, the people who got rejected got their letter one to two weeks after their first interview. but for me, i've been waiting for a whole month and still no news. man.... it's very very stressful, just to wait for their letter.

so, i'm wondering if anyone have the same situation? thanks
