Regarding cadets with experience

Cadets with experience have to do the full 60 week course for two main reasons.

Firstly, even if you do have flying training under your belt you were not taught the "Cathay" way, or the way in which Cathay stipulates how you should be taught.

Secondly, even if you have a license of some sort (ie CPL), chances are it is not a Hong Kong license but rather an Australian, UK, FAA, Canadian, JAA etc. The Hong Kong CAD will not provide exemptions to cadets with prior experience because it is part of their policy as they don't consider cadets to have relevent experience to do so.

Regards

"Why do you want to be a pilot?"

How did u answer that in your application form? How long did you wait after submitting your application before you got notify for an interview.

I am short sighted by 650 degree. can i still apply?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I would have the 2nd interview with KA in 2 weeks.
I was told that it would be a technical one.

Unlike CX, KA wont send any material to me to prepare for the interview..., I am wondering if you guys could tell me ...

1. What areas has been covered in the 50pages booklet that CX send you before the 2nd Stage?
Aerodynamics, Meterology, Aircraft instrument systems, navigation planning???

2. How in depth does this booklet go into?
3. For KA 2nd Interview, anyone knows how indepth they would ask you?

Thx a lot

hi everyone

i would like to apply for the cx cadet program after graduation next year. since i wonder if my eyesight, especially colour vision, can fit the HKCAD requirment to be a pilot, i appreciate if you could tell me where i can have a medical check or simply eye check in Hong Kong.
or which institutions are authorized to conduct such exam?
although i understand cx would check it for the applicant, i want to clarify my situation before application.

thank you very much!!

5'9", 120 lbs?

Jesus, you are a twig. There is a physical test during the interviews where they see if they can snap you in half (to simulate G forces). If your back breaks, too bad for you.

They won't drop you because of weight, there is no hard labour involved, except for the push starts...

But your fitness is a concern. They won't want someone who reports sick all the time. I hope that is not the case for you.

Hi everybody,

I'm somewhat interested in the cadet programme. Anyone know if they are only taking in resumes or are they actually hiring? It states having a PR is required. Although I dont have pr, can i still apply for the programme before applying for a PR? oh btw im a US resident.

thanks

Don't think so. From my prespective, it's a program intend to create local pilots. Therefore, if you don't have a PR then you don't qualify for the program. The last time I checked the only way to get PR is either you're born in HK, like most of us, or lived there for 7 years. I think given your current citizenship, you can only join thru direct entry, which require Pilot in Command experience I believe (please search the forum on this).

Taken from this website:
http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkid_oversea.htm

My mom lived there for over 7 years. Although now she resides here in NY, can I get a PR through her?

Thanks

HK PR

Hi creasian,

Unfortunately you won't be able to get HK PR through your mom if she lived there for 7 years. The only way you'll get it is if your mom was born in HK. Personally, I think the fastest way for you to get the HK PR is to marry with someone from there. This way, you'll get it within 6 months. Good Luck.

creasian.

I would just ask the immigration dept.

If your mom didn't have PR when you were born, I don't think you'll be able to claim PR.

a9733232hkg,

Are you sure about PR in 6 months? I think the spouse is still subject to a 7 year residency requirement.

HK PR

Hi seawolf21,

If the spouce was born in HK, then the other can have PR within 6 months or a bit longer depending on the number of applications. That's what I was told by the immigration officer when I was at Wan Chai immigration building last summer.By the way creamasian, you can't have double citizenship if you're a US citizen according to US immigration.

In theory, you can't have dual citizenship according to US laws but it's no longer really enforced. The US doesn't really care if you obtained a dual citizenship via marriage/birth. They're more concern if you obtain another citizenip via naturalization (as it involves taking an oath to another state) but again, it's rarely enforced.

The only requirements they do have is that you must enter and leave the US on your US passport and pay taxes in your worldwide income.
