Why cant pilot wannabes ask about the salary?

It's like whenever u ask about the salary and income of being an airline pilot, those so-called "passionate" people would come out and blame u bark at you for for not having passion for the job and should never be allowed to work in the industry.

I'm wondering why can we ask about this.
Why asking about the money issue = not passionate?
