Cathay Second Officer vs. First Officer?

Ok so I know the difference between the two but which way would be the recomended way to begin at Cathay...Hired as a Second Officer or wait a couple of years while building time at another airline and be hired as a direct entry First Officer? As far as upgrade to captain and QOL which is more desirable? Also, I know that a Second Officer at Cathay is basically the "cruise pilot" but what about a Junior First Officer, First Officer, or Senior First Officer?

This might help. I was on a DE F/O interview in 2008. I was 'fortunate' enough to get a 'YES' letter........3 years later, and i'm still waiting !
