New Second Officer Questions?
For those of you that have been doing the 2011 Second Officer Interviews this week, please post your questions here.
So far i've heard 3 of the obvious ones from this week:
1) How much has your technical proficiency improved since the last time you were here?
2) What have you been doing since the last time you were here?
3) What is new at Cathay since the last time you were here?
Any Others

Wannabe cadet
Hey guys! First time posting, so here goes.
I have very minimal hours (Maybe 15hrs in a cessna and 2.5 hrs in Alt Sim). I have family in HK and is a HK citizen, I am eager to apply to the cadet programme! So, my real question is after hearing from all the pros (and a lot of) cons...Would it be a good idea to try for Cathay? (Forget whether if I make it in or not)

More questions
7.) Is it worth leaving my home country to be worse off than at home?
8.) Can you trust a company who offered you a reasonable deal 2.5 years ago and a **** deal today?

Thanks for the reply Polair!
Spot on, last time I lived in HK for a while was maybe 2 years ago. Don't get me wrong, it is not the logo nor the big shiny jet idea getting to my head (The logo maybe a little, just being honest). The thing is; I have been through a program before, and at the time, maybe I was too immature and I didn't make it through and it cost me an arm and a liver (I'm sure you folks know better than I do the expenses) and I feel that this might be a great opportunity for me to try and get back into the aviation world. (Yes, i am blessed enough to have food and beer provided for me back home =D)

from what I read from this forum, S/O roster is pretty relaxed? only working 1/3 to 1/2 of the month?
don't flame me please, this is just my guess, hope someone with a clearer picture can come in with a more accurate answer..

SO Rosters
SOs currently do 2-3 trips per month, in addition to a simulator session every 2 months (approx).
The number of trips you do vary not necessarily by fleet, but by destination. For example, if you are on the triple 7 and fly to New York, flying there twice in a month will use up all your hours, whereas flying to London/Milan/Vancouver will require you to fly 3 times.
Usually get one to two nights at the outports, resulting in a 4-day pattern for each trip.
Hope this info helps.

Flaps99,
Exactly the same time as if you came with zero hours; at the moment upgrades from SO to FO are running at just above 4 years and increasing - CX is now (finally) a seniority based airline...you will also receive the exact same salary as a guy who came with zero hours...
