Question Do some CX pilots commute?

Hi guys,

A basic question from a wannabe...

Do any CX pilots commute to Hong Kong? i.e. could you live somewhere like Bangkok or Hanoi?

Any help appreciated!

Cheers,

Puma

yes you could and yes people do, some commute to Aus and Europe. As an SO plenty of time off and can spend at least a week or more elsewhere every month, would say about 10 days average. As a JFO hard as not many days off in chunks, as an FO or Capt people do but probably not as much time at home as an SO. If you are thinking of joining as a cadet forget it as will be too expensive as will have to have somewhere in HKG and wont have the spare cash, as an FO ex cadet you probably could do it.

Yes. Best I've heard of was to Florida. Bali, Jakarta, Bangkok, Phuket all easy if your keen to do it. Plenty of guys to Sydney as well, bit longer and more expensive (about 2600 hkd for id bn class return standby ticket) but quite doable with 3 or 4 flight a day. Suspect the aust tax department will put an end to it shortly by making guys with a home in aust pay tax there aswell as hong kong. The maths then will point towards a career with jetstar or virgin. (already better off at qf if you can get a start with them) Speaking of maths, I can't see the figures adding up without the housing allowance.
