I am kind of surprised that the medical isn’t being done in the earlier stage of the CPP selection nowadays. Well, as far as I understand your chance is pretty much gone if you failed the Lantern test. I am not in the position to make any comment but this is what happened to those applicants who have color deficiency in the old days. I have a doubt on any further eye test will be offered or accepted unless they have changed the policy. I am sorry but this highly likely is the end of the road.

As far as my understanding goes, u cannot hold a class 1 medical with color deficiency. In some countries u can hold a class 2 (PPL) but class 1 is most likely out of the question.

I know some ATPL pilots flying for airlines with a certain amount of colour blindness.

France and South Africa are two countries that come to mind as accepting of this condition and allowing you to hold a class 1 medical..

I am afraid HKG government has their heads so far up their own backsides i.t.o changing with the times that I have a feeling you will not be accepted here - might have nothing to do with CX - just a CAD ( govt ) reuirement for issuing of medical. THey will most likely only change their requirements after North Korea.....in abou six hundred years. Surprised they don't still require you to sit blindfolded on a spinning chair as part of your medical......

If you had the test with CX then, It's safe to say the selection process is over. However, like the guy mentioned before, there are countries and airlines that do accept colour deficiencies and even the HKCAD (To an extend. That's probably why they sent to do a more detail diagnosis)

It's not the end of the world. You are probably able to pass a class 2 therefore able to hold a PPL. If you are in doubt, you can always do a medical privately.

Good luck mate

I think you may find that RC (if he is still the Chief Medico at Cathay) will accept the results of an FAA Signal Light Gun Test.
Provided that you have passed that test of course!
