CPP defferal

Hey Guys,

Ive tried to find some info on this but seem to be having no luck. With all the first round interviews commencing in october, when can we expect flight grading for the successful candidates? Also if you are selected, what do you think the chances are of cathay allowing a cadet to defer their start date on the course for instance to complete the final subjects of a uni degree? Anybody know of them allowing this in previous years?

Thanks

there are precedent cases, not sure how many but it definitely has happened before.

my question to your question is - why didn't you apply when you are ready. Thsi also apply on all other job's application, where is your brain buddy? take it or leave it, this is a real business enviornment, don;t ask daddy to do you any favor. after all, ask the interviewer during your interview but i have a serious doubt about a long defer. defer your degree instead dude if you get an offer. anyway, fast process could bring you form zero to offer in 2-3 months, 4-6 months is the normal speed nowadays. it all depends on the class date. im not sure about overseas applicants but the overall speed should be about the same. good luck!

How different is it? I'm assuming you waited for a shorter time?

WHAT? Are you Nuts???
Never defer your degree!!!!

CX will spit you out like a bad taste if they have to. This is the airline business for ch***t's sake. It has good years, fantastic years, and it has awful years. Economies come and go whether you're in HK or not. Airlines fail.
Pilots get let go.
Do your due diligence before you cue up at ANY airline.
When you get your A** kicked out on the street you will have no income, a lease on an overpriced apartment and a car loan you can't pay. What do you intend to do?

Figure it out before you jump. After will be too late.

A degree in something would go a long way. Don't you think???

Jump into the CPP if you can but if Uni comes calling, drop CX "like a bad taste". Pilot licence later. CX later. If they're still there and if they're the same size.

chaztee,

yes you should feel offended of what i wrote. I am actually very upset about people doing things "non-sense". if you still have a degree to go, why can;t they wait until they are ready, what are they thinking at the time when they submit the application. this kind of problem should not have happened at the 1st place.

anyway, as what i have said, i have a doubt on any long defer. short one should be fine like you.

with respect to the defer decision, it depends on what you want. surely a cpp offer is very attractive to jump start a career in piloting and no one know if a second chance will be offered or not. If i am in this situation, I will go for the CPP and catch up my degree later if a cpp defer isn;t an option. A S/O life isn;t that hard for a degree catch up, it depends on how bad you want to make it happen. after all, think twice before you send your application and this will never be a problem.

well, if they advise you to apply some 3/4 months ahead of your degree, that make sense coz the process takes at least that long. I am sorry for my words but i really was pissed. I sincerely wish luck to all applicants but i still think people should have known how long the whole process takes with all the tech nowadays, apply when it fits.

i did my application in the 90s overseas and i didn;t have such problem (consider there was limited net at that moment) because i knew what i was doing and coundn't be rushed. in my opinion, people need to make their own decision and think of their own situation, take advise but please analyze.

You best be careful though with what you say, how do you know anything about my situation, and how do you know that my dadnt didnt die of cancer earlier this year? Just watch out, i guess there always has to be someone who wants to turn a reasonable enquiry into an argument. :s Chatzee, ill PM you, thanks alot for your comments~!

if i was offered the chance to do a degree or join CX as a cadet pilot, i would jump for the latter, hands down. you can apply anyday to any university to do any degree... you may only get a chance with cathay ONCE. so why not grasp the chance that CX offers you, finish their course and become an S/O, and then apply for a distance-learning undergraduate or postgraduate degree? there are plenty of pilots who have academic endeavours outside their professions and you wouldn't be alone.

anyway, talk to CX and see what they say. if you can defer, then do it. if your university somehow will allow you to finish up the remainder of your degree in a long-distance mode, then why not? but if they want you to start straight away or you won't be able to get back to finishing your degree after graduating from Adelaide, then you can think about whether throwing away your previous efforts at uni will be worth it. personally, i wouldn't let a once-in-a-lifetime chance to slip away for the sake of getting something i can always get later.

best of luck with whatever you choose. just make sure you think everything through first and you will be fine.

Ask yourself if you really have time to apply/complete a distance learning undergraduate course.

Then ask yourself if the uni will provide distance learning in the area that you want to study.
