Cathay Pilot Hiring
Sorry guys,
I've been out of the loop for a while. Is CX hiring on hold or is hiring going on right now? I know they are taking applications right now.
Hope to hear from you.

Nada during 2009, and the way things are looking, I'm not holding my breath for '10 either (DESO or DEFO). Was told to expect an "update" third quarter of 2009, and unfortunately I'm expecting the update to begin with "due to the slow recovery of the airline industry, we are currently not in a position to offer..." But it pays to be patient, especially when you're waiting for something good, right?

I'm in the same boat, not really too optimistic about the update in the 3q. But you never know, 30+ airframes still to be delivered. Of course they could delay them or just park them in the desert til' needed. Hopefully see you guys around CX City next year.

The last pilots hired did their final interview in June 08 and I was told by a good friend of mine that flies for CX that they are still planning on hiring 80 pilots for 2010. I'm trying to stay positive for a class date in early 2010.
for everyone who is sitting on a "hold letter"
You might possibly be aware that all pilots were "asked" to take unpaid leave since we are overcrewed by 8% and further the majority of all CX pilots just had the choice of increasing their retirement age from 55 to 65. A lot of captains went for that option in order to secure employment past 55 rather than being dependent on the stock market and realestate investments.
This will definately have an impact on time to command AND on future recruitment as well...sorry to pass on even worse news but I dont think we will expect to have any recruitment for a while.

I've been here over a decade and I'm still waiting for a base. Back of the line please.
So if anyone wanted to except the t&cs, they could go straight to a base from day 1. - Then to HK after 4 years etc.

Yep Shirl accept a job being paid less than the guy sitting behind you (ie the SO). and just remember that it is not a move to HKG after 4 years, it may be available when the SO that joined the day before you has upgraded, but that is purely at the companys whim and being that it is their stated objective to get as many on bases as possible, I wouldn't be holding my breath.
