Cathay Future SO prospect - maybe?
Hi,
I'm a US military pilot, mostly helicopter time (3500TT), but I have about 1300 hours in the King Air also - and a couple hundred more SE fixed-wing hours. I'm about 2 years from retirement in the Marine Corps and will be just shy of 41 years old. Although, the last 3 years of my military career will be at a desk job.
Realistically, do you think I have a shot at a Cathay SO job? I toured the facility in HK about 10 yrs ago and was impressed.
What would be anyone's recommendation. Passenger or freight would be fine, no real preferece so far as that goes.
Thanks,
Tom

Your age vs hours is probably reasonable for Cathay SO selection. I was recruited out of a ground job, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that aspect. Maybe consider doing some part time flying during your ground job to show them you're still keen. (It'll be the last flying you do for a while if you get the job!!!)
Bottom line....if the industry ramps up again like it did in the past few years before the GFC, you shouldn't have a problem getting an interview with your background.
Good luck, ('Semper Fi' and all that good marine stuff),
