747-200 Sim prep in US?

Wondering where is the best place for Cathay sim prep., preferably on the west coast? I found FTI in Denver, but they seem pretty spendy. I also found emerald coast but MSP or MEM are a little farther than I would like to go but I will if I have to. Any other suggestions would be great! Thanks.

I can recommend Emerald Coast with Graham. Make the trip and spend the dough, it's worth it as he knows the profile very well.

I, too, was looking for something on the US west coast. I was interested in the place listed above near Vancouver, but was warned off - apparantly it's a non-motion no-visual sim that's not in the greatest of shape. Although SEA to MIA is a painful flight, I'll also cast my vote for Emerald Coast and Graham A.

Prep for CX is easy.

Practise bending over. I suggest 25 reps, twice a day for at least twenty years. Rectum widening exercises also help enormously.

Seriously now.... dont say "Flap". Its' "Flaps", or is it the other way round..

If the interviewer asks what you think of all the current industrial unrest at Cathay, or if you can hack the pollution in HK. SAY ...." I have no idea what you are talking about". Whatever you do, if you really want the job, dont forget, ask nothing about pensions.

I'm not looking for sim prep yet, but I have a DESO 1st interview coming up in SFO on Sept. 3. Looking for interview prep. Tried the place in YVR but they are already booked on the days I have off prior to the interview. Is there any other place that does reliable Cathay-specific interview prep? Searched the forum and Google, but everything goes back to the YVR company.

Also prefer US west coast or Denver area.

You don't need the interview prep for the 1st S/O interview. All the gouges are spot on, just put your head in the books and review the questions from previous pprune posts and you'll do fine. Lots of guys say the prep in YVR wasn't that great, and that CX can easily spot the guys who have been through that course because their answers to questions are all the same. Just study hard, be yourself, and you can do fine. Anyways that is just my opinion, not to discourage you. Best of luck with the process which ever way you choose to do it.

In other news, I have a 742 sim prep scheduled for September 14 (Sunday) if anyone is interested in splitting the time, let me know.

The non motion Sim at Abbottsford is an ex AC FTD that is actually quite nice. It is cheap enough that you can get alot of time and they know the profiles. It has different engines, but has round engine gages and similiar flight display. I would not let the non motion throw you off.

Thanks islandguy, that's pretty much what I was planning on doing once I couldn't work out a good time with them. My main concern is with the technical portion of the interview...no jet time for me, all my 121 pic is in turboprops. Been studying and hope I can get a good portion of this stuff down.

Have to agree with Globes on the sim though. I still plan on using those guys for the sim prep if I do get the 2nd interview offer. The non-motion I actually saw as a plus because it does keep the cost down. I know I can fly an airplane, I know I can fly a sim, I just want to get the feel for power settings of the 747 classic for the different parts of the profile.
