Should I apply now?
Hi
I currently work for a us airline flying a 320. I like the company very much but given the current conditions in the US and the fact that I have both a US and a EU passport and my family being in europe and australia, Cathay just seems to make more sense to me.
I have about 3500 TT, 2500 Turbine, 1100 light turboprop PIC and 700 in the A320.
1)I would be more interested in a DEFO position. Would I be competitive for a DEFO interview when I get 1000JET?
2) should I apply now or wait until I have 1000 JET ?(3-4months from now)
thanks

I can really only answer 2) for you:
if you want to live in HK, and be half-way between Aus and Europe, I would suggest an SO position. If you want DEFO, apply now they will ask you to apply again when you have the min experience, but it will do no harm (probably good in fact) showing you are interested earlier.
If you want a paid holiday for 2-3 years, take an expat package as an SO. You'll get anywhere between 15-20 days off at home (HK) a month, depending on fleet, and earn more in total package than a DEFO. If you decide to buy something and let the company pay it off, have kids with education expenses etc, you'd be better off, financially at least, on SO package.
You will have the same seniority (assuming you ended up starting the same time) whether SO or FO, so command would happen the same time...in theory.

i can't tell you factually; but apparently they are cancelling DEFO interviews in North America at the moment and there are a heap of ex Oasis and Dragon 744 drivers who have HK CAD ATPLs with current 744 type ratings, and are being given first priority positions/interviews.
I am only guessing, but based on the above I would guess you would probably not be competitive straight away. No one will know exactly except the recruitment department. Why don't you give them a call?
