Cathay requirements vs Military Exemptions

After a search on the subject of obtaining a JAA ATPL with exemptions (due too military hours) and joining Cathay, there seems nothing on the subject for a couple of years. Very interested in joining Cathay but through their website I cannot tick yes to passing all exams. Any recent experience out there with this or do I need to bite the bullet and do the exams I didn't have to do a few years back? Heard a rumour that Cathay may change soon to requiring just an ICAO ATPL or is this just wishfull thinking!

Thanks for any info....

Thanks for the reply. However if you try to apply for the FO position, you are asked if you have passed all ATPL exams which with exemptions I have not. I've tried emailing Cathay but no reply so I may try ringing them!

Failing that back to the books for the exams

I have the same question, my military bridging package was 11 instead of the 14 exams, with most of my UK Fast jet colleagues doing 4 instead of 14 exams.
None of us can apply at the moment since you must have all 14 exams to get through the website.
Any answer on this one?
I did hear that when you join you will do the rest of the exams during your training, but that does not help us getting through the website!
Thanks

The HK ATPL is isuued by the HK Civil Aviation Dept. When you apply for the HK licence, they require to see evidence you have passed all the ATPL subjects they require. If you can't provide evidence, you can take the HK exams. You will have to take some exams such as Air law and Performance A anyway.

For CX, this is all too difficult. They have in the past mentioned that ATPLs issued in your home country on exemptions are not acceptable. I'm not sure if this is still the case, e-mailing them and asking is the only sure way to get an answer.

This came to light about 4 years ago. I posted a message on the Military Forum warning of this. Also, you should note that the HK licence is a validation of an existing licence. You don't have to keep your original licence current to maintain your HK licence, but if you wanted to change jobs and get another county's licence on validation - they probably won't validate thier licence on a licence issued under a previous validation. So keep your orignal licence current.

Hkg Atpl

Try not to arrive in HKG without an ATPL. It is much better to set an ATPL exam/flight test in the U.S and then convert your ATPL.
If you arrive with a CPL in HKG and you will have to do the full HKG ATPL at a later date (If you want command). This is very difficult as there are no up to date books, no flight schools...

If you arrive with an frozen ATPL they might let you upgrade to an HKG ATPL if you can activate your original ATPL. This could be expensive as you might have to rent a sim to do this.

Thanks

Thanks for the info and advice. There are quite a few people with this issue so this should help us all.

Cheers!
