Cathay Medical.
I have heard that Cathay puts you through a pretty intensive medical. Can anyone tell me as to what they look at? I.E: blood pressure, hearing, ECG/EKG, cholesterol etc etc... And how does this compare to a US medical?
Any info will help.
Thanks

Not really - it's actually quite basic compared to most Asian carriers. They do basic Eye and Hearing tests, blood and urine but no cholesterol test. The only tricky part is the ECG which is done on a very sensitive ( old? ) machine so guys often have hassles with it.
Basically the idea was to check that you can make it to 55 - however now that they want you to make it to 65 the medical might become more thorough...

Now look to your left and cough!
CX Initial Medical (with Dr Robert Cocks)
Blood test
Urine test
Blood pressure
Eye test
Hearing test
Measurements - weight, height, torso
ECG
Doctor:
Normal full body check-up including:
Ears
Eyes
Balance
Reflex
and then you strip
and then you cough...
Also they go through a lot of medical questions! Again and again
They want to know about ALL previous operations, hospitalisations, scars, family history, childhood or former illnesses etc.
From where I come from I would say it is more involved than what I'm used to, but maybe it was just the stress of the interview and everything.
