While I'm not living in HK at the moment, I'm there all the time and looking at moving there in the near future. That said, I think that the package on offer would be tight but not impossible for a single guy. A married guy would be paying to go to work. Depends on your situation. I think FedEx will have trouble crewing this base at this payscale. Double the housing and I think that it is a bit more realistic. Good luck.

Your 1st year pay may be 'do-able', but, probably would be better if you at least share a place for Year 1. There are apartments near the airport that you could rent initially, for under $2,700 USD. The cost of food and electricity is where you'll get hit the hardest.
PM if you have questions.
Congrats on getting into Fedex

Yes, the package is very megre. That housing allowancewon't go far and for the married guys with kids, there is no education which is a very big factor. Other established operators in HK have much better packages.

511, piece of cake!!!
I think the above replys may have come from my richer bretheren
Down in the lower echelon of HK aviation, FOs are surviving just fine on 60K US ( 39KHKD/month ) 50 might be a little more of a struggle.
Having said that, is the hsng 2700USD/month?? if so, great, thats 21Khkd/month, get a place in Tung Chung for 12Khkd/month, pocket the difference, and you will be living like a King ( Ok, Rodney King )
I am assuming its 2700/month as 2700/year is ridiculous, also the increase in year 2 is awesome !!
FYI, we have an FO with 3 kids surviving ( just, with wife part time ) on less than your package, amazing what you can do when you have no choice
Now I have 2 questions for you:
Are they hiring ( do they do DECs ) and how long to command ?

Fedex are taking the piss, the salary is an insult, cannot understand that it has been tabled and anyone is considering it. Yes you will be able to survive if you are single, but you will have a mediocre existence. This is not the time to accept substandard packages, assume the Fedex balance sheet is in the black?

no argument from me that it could be a whole lot better...but it is what it is...hopefully it will improve before the base actually opens...looking for worst case scenario, would it be do-able in hong kong for that amount for a single guy...

Yes, here's one. It is cr@p and by taking it you make matters worse for everyone else so do yourself and others a favour..............
Not the time to take such a sub ZERO package in HKG where things are booming (and thus expensive..)

while i admit that it is not what other companies or airlines are offering, the intent was to see if it is do-able...there seems to be a lot of differing opinions on whether it is or not, so i wanted to cut thru the b.s. to see what guys that live there have to say and form my own opinion...
hongkongphooey works for one of the short haul low cost operaters in HK, perhaps the one which is losing it's pilots at a massive rate. He refers to 'richer brethren', perhaps those who work for the company which his 'lower paid' brethren are leaving for. Even, then, the higher paid company is losing pilots because their pay isn't adequate.
Don't come here hoping the package may get better. It probably won't.
