CX DEFO Requirements/Bases/Operations Question

I've currently got around 1200 hours TT, of which 850 or so have been on the 757 with a major UK charter. I hold a JAA ATPL (frozen), and Canadian citizenship, but living in England. Would like to apply to CX as a DEFO as soon as I meet the requirements (should be in the New Year), looking for a YVR base.

Would I need to hold a Canadian ATPL first before being conidered for a base there, or would they cover the license conversion? And secondly, do CX actually hire DEFO into the pax operation, or would it be onto Cargo for a period first?

DEFO Requirements

I am also interested in knowing the exact requirements for a DEFO position with CX. I have around 5300 hours of total time in the US. I am currently flying as Captain on a CRJ 900. I currently have around 500 hours of PIC time in the CRJ.

My questions are:

1. Would CX consider me for a direct entry FO position with 500 hours PIC time or would it be better with 1000.

2. Is it really required to have the ATPL exams passed. I have heard it is not really neccessary.

CX aircraft are registered in Hong Kong (B-HOR for example), so no matter where you are based you will require a HK ATPL or CPL. First two weeks in HK, will be spent taking Hong Kong written exams for the conversion of your home license to a HK professional pilot license (ATPL or CPL). Most of the cost is covered by CX, but I think that you will be required to pay 170HKD or so for something. First medical is free, with interview, but subsequent ones are on your own.

Only recruitment can answer that!! Just apply and find out.

I know that you fly for Mesa but I am going to assume that being a CRJ captain you are in possession of an FAA ATP. Which means that you, at some point, sat for the FAA ATP knowledge test and received a passing score. So you have passed the ATPL exam for your home country. It is plural because most countries require multiple exams for all levels of licensing, including Hong Kong.
