A friend of mine got hired in 1996 with 1200 hours total time, mostly Cessna 172 that he was instructing on. He's a 777 Captain now.

Me on the other hand, I've been invited for a 2nd interview for a S/O posistion....

6000+ total
1000+ high-performance turbine PIC
1000+ over 20,000kg turbine
4000+ multi-PIC
29 years old
10 years commercial flying experience

Hey Cedar,
Just Curious but your time over 20000Kg is it PIC or FO.
Does anyone know the realistic requirements for DEFO, will they actually look at a guy with 1000 hrs PIC Heavy Turbo Prop.
Thanks
DW

Hi DW,

None of my PIC is over 20,000kg, I only have 12,500lb+ PIC. I'm curious how many pilots have interviewed for DESO and were offered DEFO?

mgTF

As far as basing goes, all DESO's start on long haul PAX fleet flights and are based in HK until they upgrade to JFO, which at this point bidding for a different base is an option (upgrade is usually around 4 years). ALL DEFO's start off on the freighter fleet and there are a few basing options , if you don't want to live in HK, they can then bid for the PAX fleet after 2-3 years i believe (correct me if i'm wrong on this one).

hope this helps.

Aaron

thanks,
is legend that they pay a ticket for you to fly from your hometown to your base and viceversa at the end of duty? or is true?
once you are hired is possible to change your base also in other countries and continent so as to travel a bit? do they promote any visas in that case?

All I can think of is Military....Maybe I should have gone that route...

No A1R_RESQ. It is possible to have that experience on wide-body without a military background.
I speak for my self, i´ve around 1500 TT with over 1100 Heavy-Jet (L1011-500)
That hour vs experience scenario sometimes it´s not quite a direct relatioship as people tend to think or believe.
Anyway i´ve applied for CX and nothing still, but i wont give up.
Best of the best
