My interview was in CYVR on Aug 30th. Monica sent me an email with an invite to HK on Nov 9th for a S/O final interview!!
The questions in the interview were quite detailed, it was more difficult than I anticipated. The reading paid off.
I've been applying to Cathay since 1997. Any advice from anyone out there would be really appreciated!

I did my interview in CYVR on August 28th and am going to HK on Nov. 8-9. Does anyone have info on what the second interview is like and if they are still doing the math test.

Math test will be the least of your concerns. Get some sim time and put on a good show in the box. They will let you know which sim with wth the "second interview" package.

Second interview is much like the first one, no real surprises, just a bit of more probing.
Tech is much the same too. Study up again!!!
Dont worry about the maths, put the time into your prep for the sim and interview. Remember to consider all the HR type questions thoroughly too.
You will be surprised at how warmly you are welcomed when you get there (at least i was). Good luck all!

I know people say dont worry about the Math test but I have all the info to prepare for the sim eval and the tech/HR interview, I just want to prepare for the Math part too. Does anyone know what type of questions are asked, as Math was never my strongest subject in school.

Basically, the test consists of percentages, ratios, basic table interpretation and crunching numbers from the tables. The 30 questions are split into smaller groups of 3 questions, all based on the same data. There are 16 multi choice answers for each group.....which sucks!!
READ THE QUESTIONS and pay attention to the data tables. ie: asks for answer in millions which is 10 and not 10,000,000. If you're rushing you'll trip up here.
I felt good about my 2 interview days, but thought I'd majorly porked it with the maths test. I was thinking I got about 10/30, factoring in a few mistakes!!.....but I got in, so there's hope for everyone I may have got more, but who knows.
If you have a good resume and come across strong in the interview and sim, I don't think the maths test has much weight.
YOU WON'T FINISH so don't sweat it!!
Search the forum here, there's more examples on the Q types. Good luck!

-200 or 744 box
When i was there in summer there was an SO course coming through and they got put into the -200 box. They were set up and were made to do raw data ils at night if i remember correctly. i believe whilst the cadet sim ride is similar there is no way to tell which box you'll be in until the second interview.
Hope this helps.

TruBlu go and see Denly (3/F) ask to see your 'P File'.
It has all the info and marks from your interviews, psyc test, sim etc
You'll either be pleased with your sparkling intelligence or slink out the door thinking...'whole sh1t, Im lucky to be here!'
The sim (747 or 747) details/package will arrive 30days before your interview. It will tell you which box you are in.
bjbb - for reference the 747 doesnt have modern visuals. Its dusk or night flying only.
Obviously the 747 (analogue) is prefered over the glass 744. Quite simply because its harder, requires a faster basic scan and also provides a level playing field for all candidates. (Not to mention its got a more down time and is a lot cheaper too!!)

Asymmetric Blade Affect - ??
petitfromage- Thanks for the info, i didnt know bout the graphics on the analogue and it would seem to make sense. quite frankly id be happy to be flying anything, especially with CX! Ive Just applied and am hoping to hear back! has anyone got any idea on Asymmetric Blade Affect. i dont get why the distance covered by the down going blade is further at a higher AoA. it therefore rotates faster, more lift/drag, then the thrust line moves towards the down goin blade creating more yaw. I find this all very confusing to get my head around. Any help would be appreciated! cheers

I break it down to 2 components.
1. AIRPSEED: Think of the aircraft flying at 90* angle of attack, like a helo. The prop on the forward rotating side has a higher airspeed due to the aircraft's forward motion, which increases thrust on that side.
2. PROP ANGLE OF ATTACK: Imagine an aircraft flying at 30* angle of attack for example. Picture the angle of attack on the downgoing blade WRT the relative airflow compared to the upgoing prop. You'll see that the down going one has a higher AoA and therefore creates more thrust.
Both these principles shift the thust axis to the downgoing side.
Good luck!

Thanks, Hear back times?
Thanks alot for that Trublu i havent been able to understand that for ages!
As i said ive sent in my application and am hoping, praying like anything to hear back. Ive heard that this can range from the next day to 4 years so does anyone have a happy middle figure that i can use as a rough time. Im still at school at the mo so am hoping if they get back it'll be in hols! does anyone know the probabilty of local english guy even being interviewed yet alone selected by dragonair? Just thinking of back up plans! I hear they take on a large scale of chinese guys compared to other carriers.
