New DEFO compensation? Any info? Rumors?
They were very cautious in HKG last week, and avoided any speculation on what kind of pay rates to expect in 2007 for new US freighter based DEFOs. Any rumors? Progress?
Considering the extremely high cost of living in some of the offered bases, I am obviously concerned (worried is more appropriate)!
I heard they want to bring the pax and cargo pay closer to each other. Does this mean a pay-raise for cargo, in addition to that already talked about pay cut for pax?
Could anybody shed some light on some of the latest rumors?
With a fairly significant amount of US carriers hiring at this time, wouldn't a pay cut on the freighter side drive a large amount of FOs to quit CX. A lot of guys in my airline already refused to apply because of the low pay for such a wide-body job compared to UPS/Fedex, or even compared to the pay on some national carriers like southwest. All guys with green cards and US passports have other flying opportunities that most European guys do not have.

I am just concerned that's all. I am not going to work for Cathay to get rich! On the other end I have spent enough years struggling financially in the US, and it is finally paying off. Getting a job with Cathay and giving up 8 years of seniority with another airline is not an easy thing to do. Yes I have cold feet! Well excuse me for getting worried when I hear rumors of up to $30000 a year pay cuts.
I saw the posts on the FH website and was just wondering if there had been any further developments since. I have posted on the FH forum before but some guys do not seem to like wannabes intruding.

As far as the visa issue I was just stating what is the obvious: there are a lot of job opportunities in North America. Good or bad!
Every wannabe on this forum with a US visa should obviously look into all the other carriers before applying. I did, and decided that Cathay was at the top of my list for various reasons. But I refuse to work for peanuts ever again...
