CX interview prep literature
Hello all CX guru's,
I'm after recommendations for some good books regarding preparation for the CX interviews. I've heard "Ace Technical Pilot Interview, Gary V. Bristow" and "Preparing for your Cathay Pacific Interview Guide by Capt. ABC" are very good.
There is a metric s--t tin of airline interview prep books out there, but I want to know which ones are actually worth buying. Your opinions/suggestions are much appreciated.

If you've heard of the other ones, you must have heard of this one too, but "Handling the big jets" by DP Davies might be the most important one. A lot of the questions they like to ask about aerodynamics, stalls, performances are explained in it.

I just had my first interview S/O, and used Handling the Big Jets and Captains xyz to study. Pprune forum overview was prob the biggest help though.
The tech quizz questions (30min multi choice) was quite alot different but found the type of subjects same as xyz.
The interview was alot diff from what I expected,hardly any tech questions(5 mins worth) and no indepth detail was asked.
Most of the questions were of personal nature(35mins) ie background, and about Hong Kong. Suggest you also study abit on Hong Kong.
Strangely enough, felt as if they had already made up there mind before hand. We'll have to wait and see.

Guys,
Thanks for the advice. HTBJ seems to be the book of choice.
It seems that everyone is having a different experience with their 1st interview. Some get smashed with tech and more recently it seems personal Q's are flavour of the month. I guess it pays just to know everything!

Had my interview this week as well, and had NO tech questions in the interview. So all the study on Dutch roll, Mcrit,etc to no avail. But you never no what they may ask. More questions on operational aspects. Plenty of questions on personnel experiences, and life in Hong Kong. The 2 guys were true gentlemen, and never felt uneasy or unsettled. Walked out of the interview calm, but still i couldn't answer all of the questions in full. I think if i had another month to study it wouldn't have helped much more, perhaps I was focusing on the wrong area.
In saying that I believe "Handling the Big JETS" is compulsory
Capt XYZ of some value, but plent of information available on the net.
Just have to wait now for the phone call and see the outcome GOOD LUCK!

Since we got lots of useful Tech info here could any of you perhaps provide some feedback on the type of personal and operational questions that you got asked? So we'll have a wide range of Tech and now non Tech examples to get an idea of things. Thanks

interview debrief
Here some feedback from my 1st interview.
1/ Tech quizz (30mins multi choice),not in xyz.
-ASI
-Great circle/rumb line (which shortest)
-meridians
-Flutter
All other questions variations of the xyz sample.
2/ Interview
two gents,very relaxed-abit too casual I thought,could be a ploy to get you talking.Be carefull!
The HR guy started off (about 35mins) asking all sort of questions relevant to one's personal life,partner,kids,where you from,what made you want to fly,brothers/sisters,who you know in cathay(names),have you communicated with them,what you do in yr spare time,and the main thrust was what you know about Hong Kong (I haven't been there),climate,air pollution was his big thing(could you handle that),how long you think you will be an S/O, what lifestyle you think you can have there.
Basically in the hour waiting between the quizz and the interview there was a very handy pictorial book on Hong Kong and factual info.Was a good help,so was the secretary in the waiting room who strangely enough was very talkative and full of questions about me as well,could be another ploy,inter-relating and all that.
Now as for the tech part(approx 5 mins worth)
-diff between t/prop and jet on approach (spool up time from idle/better lift over wing from prop)
-engine failure prior V1 drill ie keep straight,close power,brakes,reverse in my plane.
-engine fire just after V1,should you stop or go? and drill ie segments.Didn't ask gradients.Also basis plane I fly.
-spoilers/what they do
-lastly what plane you would like to fly(I said didn't know-which one did he fly??)
-fuel in horiz stab on B747-why,diff between that and A340.
all tech stuff, no effort was made to grill me for more detail,or probe further which I was expecting.

Also in the interview was asked about
Windshear, drills for the aircraft I fly and difference with that compared to the Airbus. was asked how would you fly the airbus if windshear was reported.
Talked about fly by wire which i had not studied and it's back up system.
Which aircarft i would like to fly and why.
There were 2 models on the table,and wasn't even asked what type they were as I knew that! I was asked how any aircraft in the fleet and what type, but not the numbers of each.
Why is the RB211 more efficient than other 2 spool engines.
Most of the interview focused on ME, my experiences and how i might fit in to Hong Kong
Also in the interview was asked about
