Word on the street is that ATL and DFW will initially not be crew bases. Though you can always designate it as a preferred port of course. Lots of people have their eye on Atlanta - handy for FL I guess.
After the realisation that Chicago isnt working out to maximum efficiency, they are loathe to put crew bases where they likey will not be most useful.

can you explain this preferred port concept. Just from guessing, I would think that means a city to start and end trips from although not based there??? Thanks for the info!

Yes, preferred port must be an on-line CX port. Crew planning will try and put you in and out of your prefferred port when they can. Be warned though, unless you live close to your preferred port, it can backfire.
An example would be, suppose you were based primary port NYC, preferred port ATL and your home was in say Miami. If you ended a trip in New York on say Monday night, the firm could theoretically schedule you out of Atlanta on say Wednesday morning early. Now, what do you do ? take the first flight to Miami on Tuesday morning, get a few hours at home and then position to Atlanta Tuesday late afternoon ready for Wednesday's flight ? Alternatively position New York to Atlanta immediately - at your own expense. And remember staff travel at CX sucks - and thats being kind. There are no jump seat agreements as they are know in the US industry, you'll have to buy a ZED ticket for your positioning flights. This can be just one of the many culture shocks of coming here, still the money is good and the job is as stable as any out there.
I know guys living in Orlando based in New York who aren't bothered about Atlanta as a pp for that very reason.
