cathay freight or pax
hello,
at what stage of the interview will they tell U that U are selected for the freght fleet or the pax one?
Will U have a choice for an european base (i.e. CDG instead of FRA)?
thanks

If you have applied as a direct entry First Officer and you are successful, you will be on the freighter exclusively for at least around 2-3 years, possibly more. If you have applied for direct entry Second Officer, and are successful you will be on the Passenger fleet. You may be required to fly the freighter occassionally but not exclusively. As an F/O on the freighters you will have a choice of European bases or North American namely Paris, London (Manchester), Frankfurt and Chicago, New York and LAX (I believe). There may be more, I am not too sure. As for S/O, you will be based in Hong Kong at least until your upgrade to F/O, where you can apply for bases by seniority and fleet. As an S/O you can apply for temporary bases (periods of 2-4 months) after your time of probation is complete, normally one year.
Hope this answers some questions

thanks hydro,
but my application was a general one:
they mailed me from h.k. four pages with a PRN (personal reference number) and it's was not specified if it was for the freight or the pax fleet.
(?)
do U know more?
thanks

They tell you when and if you are selected for an interview.
My understanding for bases for FX is that they ask your preference, and you will usually get it immediately or soon (at least for US bases).
