Thanks MrFox,

So...you don't need the "born there or lived for 7 years" requirement, eh? You just made my day. Thanks!

Whoa now DS... All this only means that a 1 star (*) ID card doesn't equal instant disqualification - it just means you have a youth ID card. You'll still need to meet the requirements for Permanent Residency.

MrFox,

Checked the old card; I do have one *, and the A. Checking the back, I have the PIC for sure....it says so. Thing is, since I got it in 1995 and haven't gone back b/c of this or that reason, will I keep my * and A?

Also, what's with this SmartCard thing I've been hearing about?

Thanks!

cadet applicant,

they mailed me a book (around 60 pages) for me to study. they will give you 2-3 weeks to study that. the second round interview will consist of numerical and personality tests, job knowledge tests, interview and group flight planning test.

I think you've been contradicting yourself. You said you were born in Canada and have not lived in HK for 7 years? But you say you have a PIC. That is strange if it is true. To be eligible for a PIC, you must be borned in HK or lived in HK for 7 years.

Give us some clarification, because I think everyone in this forum is half lost reading your posts

Give us some details.. ie, have you lived in HK for 7 years previously?

my case is quite similar to cadet applicant. mak I ask you that is the second round interview is only 35 mins interview? so, you so far have been up to third round interview, is it?
as you mentioned that there would be a numerical and personality test. how does it like?
then, what about the group disscusion?
thank you for your kindly help.

vhhh,

what do you mean second round interview? since the first round is split into two now, one with interview and one don't. So I think the second interview you are talking about is the first one you have been to. It's around 20-35 mins. Two interviewers with general questions. For the details of the tests, I am not too sure as I haven't done them yet. Tell you about that after Wednesday.

hi vhhh,

thanks. there's no notes for the first interview. it's just a general ones, about your interests and personality.

Flyman 27 (and everyone else confused after my posts),

Sorry for giving all you guys the run-around! I researched (endlessly) the requirements for getting the Right of Abode in HK and it turns out that you either need to be born there, lived there for 7 years, or have a youth PIC but go back every 36 months. All this crazy confusion was b/c I did have the youth PIC, but I didn't go back every 36 months; some people I know did and got the Adult PIC, some who didn't got the Adult ID (with only the Right to Land, including working and living indefinitely).

So, in short, I can't get ROA but I can live, work, study, etc. there permanently (I'm still trying to figure out why they'd have two types of residency that are exactly the same). So...I suppose I'll have to cancel the 30 Dec interview they got lined up for me now

Dimsum:

There isn't really two types of residency. It's just like being a Canadian citizen. I am one myself. But you need to first live there for 3 years or go back every once in a while during those 3 years. That's the same for HK.

At least you found out well in advance. Better to find out now then when you get to the interview. Or they could blacklist you or something for lying on your application and not clarifying things before you apply.

DS, Sorry to hear. I feel terrible for in some ways my posts might've misled you. I wish I can be of some more help, but I'm no expert on the subject of HK residency - just misc. info that was a result from my own ID card fiasco.

Don't worry about misleading me....if I didn't have the requirements, it's better that I know now and could cancel the interview than to walk in and get the door slammed on me!

Good luck to all the other people out there looking for the job, you just got one extra interview slot open

Interview Notes on Nov 26,03

Notes on the first Interview on Nov 25,03 @ Cathay City

1. Quick Appitiute test -- Includes : Simulation on landing the flight...( I didn't do really good in this part 1/5 on landing)

Movement on the joystick to demonstrate my reaction timing..I am sure you know this simple about..it is all about controlling the point and try to stay between the 2 bars.
.i think i did ok in this part, I score 15/16 in the rating )

Afterwards, I did a test on "reaction" again. The computer screen will show 2 types of planes : enemy and allies. Their appearance look very similar, the only deviation between the twos are the length of the wings...3mm and 5mm wow...i think i did ok in this part 2. I score..about 85% right.

2. Short Medical : Simple check on eyes to see if i am colour blind, and regular eye check just like when you go to shop a new pair of glasses. They said I did ok in this part but ...tell you the truth...I was interested to apply cadet 2 years ago when I am back in canada. But, cx has sent me all those test on my eyes. ...and i have very strong near sight (about 650...too much video games.may be...). Did you know any of your colleagues have serious near sight ? and do cx aceept laser surgery.....it will be great if you can give me some valuable advice.

3. Grammer test/ and logical test-- I think i did ok on the grammer part and the listening test. For the logical test, they are quite unpredictable. Some of the answer I just don't have a clue...and I just guess on it.....

After all these tests, Peggy (assistant in recruitment of cadet pilot???) just told us and wait for the interview part. And i will have the interview part on the Dec 16. So, the coming interview is still my first but the last part. One of my friend just went in the same interview 2 weeks ago, he did all the above test in one day and he just got a email 2 days ago that he failed...he told me that he did very bad...in the impersonal interview. He told me that the FO ask him tough question, like..

1)Why do you want to join cathay pacific? (standard question i guess)

2)Why do you want to be a pilot? (standard also...i guess)

3) Do you know any other airlines..have cadet program..?
His Answers: Yes, BA, Dragonair..

4) What happen if we don't hire you but dragonair hire you?
his answer: well i will stick with cx cux they are world-wide and well-recognized airlines...

5) what will be your career be if you can't be a cadet pilot?
his answer: he is not sure cux..he is a fresh university grad

Well..that's about it...anyway ...what will be the interview like? and also what are they looking for? I really want to have a well prepare interview so i can get better impression to the human resourses for this job. ( please note that the reason i apply this job not because of the current tvb episode....cux i enjoy flying!)

> You can never be too prepared. That is what I believed. (^_^)
>
>>1. What will be included in written test?
> PPL knowledge. CX will give you a book you are suipposed to read
>and be tested on. However, it is good to prepare more since the test
>will ask more. Meterology, Engine are the two main parts and you will
>be tested on how well you know the cadet programme. I believed you are
>equipped with all the knowledge necessary in AAEP.
>
>>2. How does a group exercise be conducted? How long it lasts?
> There are 2 group exercises: one is donbe by 2 as a group and the
>other is done by the whole batch. The 2 men group exercise is a glider
>planning exercise which give you info like curfew of airport, towing
>a/c available, cloud base (the higher the tow aircraft can tow you the
>longer the distance you can glide), sunrise and sunset time, your task
>is to draft a flight plan from town A to town B with the max gliding
>distance in consideration of cloud base and sunset time. The whole
>batch exercise is a logic puzzle where all the candidates will be given
>a piece of paper. Each piece of paper has common and unique info which
>you need to share verbally before you can solve the problem. The whole
>batch need to employ a club manager which satisfy all the social,
>legal, labour constraints and then select the best candidates. At the
>end you will be asked who perform best and worst in the interview.
>
>What is the purpose of such a test?
>To see your leadership and cooperation skill.
>
>>4. In interview, which kind of questions I should be supposed to know?
>They will ask you technically question from the book CX give you and
>recognise the aircraft types of CX from a/c models.
>
>>5. Which kind of technical knowledge I should focus on studying now?
>As mentioned above.

That appitiute test is conducted on the full cockpit moving simulator or just a PC?
