There is a lot of content online these days that is in some ways linked to advertising/monetisation/whatevertheycomeupwithnext and I'm sure different content blockers deal with this in differing...

No, that can't be the case, as I see (AFAIK) all of this content and am not a Facebook user. I suspect that it's a specific combination of cookie/content blocking that is preventing stuff like this...
