He is a "bloody nice chap". So that is OK then? Do not think so, he made an error that caused injury etc to many passengers.

What would happen if a A330 of a civilian airline had the similar incident. I suspect the captain would be lucky if he ever flew an aircraft again or even a desk. If the airline did not sort it out...
