One would assume/ hope that they would be docked to keep them both charged and securely in place! Agreed the paper backup would probably have to be there on the flightdeck at least...

I can't answer the question, but "intuitively" it would less as it has newer, more economical and fuel efficient engines.

What logic would you be using that it would be in the region of 30% higher?

The DHC8 is a guzzler compared to the ATR. This due mainly to the fact that it has significantly more powerful engines.

This however has the obvious benefit of allowing a higher MTOW so...
