BA Gatwick 737 fleet

Flying to Turin yesterday I was surprised to be on a 737. I thought they left the fleet in March. This was a very tired 22 year old version. Apparently there are still only 4 left. On take off, two...

BA Gatwick fleet 777

I'm considering upgrading to WT+ on a flight from Gatwick to Antigua. Has the G-VII Gatwick fleet been upgraded with the new WT+ product? Is it markedly better than the old version?

Thanks

Old vs. new

Thanks for the interesting car analogy. If you are correct, then Jet2 has a higher long-term cost base for its fleet, because of its inability to finance new ones, purchased outright.

However...

Old vs. new fleets

Please excuse if this has been asked before, but there seems to be 2 distinct strategies on fleet age by low costs airlines.

Easy and Ryanair buy brand new and have a young fleet.

Jet2 is at...

Many thanks for the complete answers. So, the capital/leasing cost of the aircraft is relatively more important than for pax fleets, and the higher maintenance costs are less important, given that...

Thank you. So that begs another question - why don't the likes of DHL simply have less aircraft and use them more intensively. Surely their "schedule" is as predictable as a passenger airline

Freight aircraft economics

I posted this question a while back on a different PP forum, and the answers were not that compelling.

If BA etc are selling off their 757s, and they are being picked up by DHLs etc that use...

Maybe not 20 mins, but definitely more than 10 mins

I saw the last aircraft landing on entering Gunnersbury Park on my run. I did not see the first from the West until I had left the park having done a complete circuit of 2 miles. I'm no sprinter!

Changing around runways at LHR

A week ago, I watched the least plane come overhead and land on a westerly runway at heathrow. About 20 mins later, the first plane flew overhead from the West. It was about 6pm, so I guess very busy...

Cheaper??

A second hand plane will be cheaper to buy, but not to operate. Therefore my original question still stands. A passenger airline does its maths, and decides it is cheaper to lease a new aircraft than...

Older aircraft used for cargo ops

Please excuse if this has already been asked:bored:

What are the economics that mean an older plane gets retired from passenger ops, and then has a new life as a cargo plane? Surely if it is...

Thanks for the info. From the pictures it was certainly an RAF one.

VC10 at Nairobi

It was good to see a VC 10 at Nairobi, as this was one of the Hot & High routes Vickers mistakenly saw as the market gap filled by the VC10.

Does anyone have any backgound on the specific one at...
