The main reason i feel most people give up is because most flying clubs wont let you take there planes away for a day even if you plan to fly more than a couple of hours which leads to many people...

Theres no need to eat anything but from my experience a nice choclate milkshake always settled the stomach as well as giving you an energy boost:} which just helps improve your flying
