Aussie Safety Program gains recognition in Alaska
The following media release was sent today.
"Alaskan Airlines adopt Australian developed
Aviation Safety Management Program"
"An Australian air safety initiative has gained international recognition. A Safety Management Systems Implementation package developed by Aviation Safety Foundation Australia (ASFA) has been adopted in Alaska as the model for its major and regional airlines through their equivalent independent safety body the Medallion Foundation. The package includes the Australian developed O’Connor Airlines Safety Integration System (OASIS) and the implementation workbook developed by ASFA.
I did not think a complete safety system implementation toolkit existed until I received the ASFA package Chief Executive Officer of the Medallion Foundation, Mr Jerry Dennis said. Our intention is to adopt the ASFA package to suit our operations and environment he said. The Alaskan program will be launched through a seminar series later this month with Dr Tony Kern who has assisted ASFA in its program in attendance.
Executive Director of ASFA Mr Bill Mattes said the international recognition of the ASFA and OASIS programs vindicated the Federal Government’s support for the Foundation and its safety and professional development programs. The safety management workshops recently conducted by CASA and the programs being developed and facilitated by ASFA placed Australia at the forefront of aviation safety education and training, he said."
Something positive to come out of Australia. Hopefully more Australian operators will now look seriously at implementing similar programs. The ASFA program does not cost an arm and a leg and only requires time and management and employee commitment.
