Hmmm,
Was on the obs seat one day westbound from SIN at FL350 and the flight was instructed to descend to FL310 (Medan control) due to crossing traffic.
THe Captain mentioned to the F/O, s@rew him, i'll do no such thing, turn OFF the radio. And so they did, believe it or not.
True story, many years ago.
